HUMBOLDT – Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawk volleyball team saw plenty of action during tournament play last Saturday at the Humboldt Wildcat Invitational. Emmetsburg would finish the day with a match record of one win against five losses.

The Lady E-Hawks opened their tournament appearance against the Dodgers of Fort Dodge and were defeated by game scores of 20-22 and 15-21.

Emmetsburg would rebound in their second match of the morning, as they squared off against West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate. In that match, Emmetsburg would battle the Lady Wolverines back and forth before taking game one of the set by a 22-20 score. But in the second game, the Lady E-Hawk rode the hot serving hand of Allison Freeman, who reeled off 18 straight points to propel Emmetsburg to a 21-1 win over the Lady Wolverines.

Meeting Grand View Christian in the next match, Emmetsburg would fall by scores of 16-21 and 7-21.

Lakes Conference foe Spirit Lake was next on the agenda for the Lady E-Hawks. After a slow start in the first game and a 10-21 loss, Emmetsburg rallied to win game two by a 22-20 score, but in the deciding third game, Spirit Lake would edge out to take a 15-11 win from the Lady E-Hawks.

Emmetsburg then played host Humboldt, and lost by scores of 4-21 and 12-21 before finishing out the tournament against South Central Calhoun, who defeated Emmetsburg by scores of 11-21 and 16-21.

The Lady E-Hawks will resume action this Saturday when they travel to Sheldon for the Lady Orab Tourney.
