Lady E-Hawks Open Season With Tough Loss

BUFFALO?CENTER – Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks opened their volleyball season Tuesday night with a tough loss on the road at Buffalo Center. The Lady E-Hawks would battle hard in a 3-0 loss in varsity action, but also suffered the loss of one of their senior leaders with an injury in the match.

Senior Kate Jackson would injure her left knee at the close of the second game of the varsity match and had to be helped from the court.

In the varsity match against North Iowa, Emmetsburg started tentatively and would come up short in the first game, losing 17-25. The second game was a back and forth affair that saw a spirited battle, only to see Emmetsburg fall 26-28. In the deciding game of the match, Emmetsburg would fall by a 25-15 score.

The Lady E-Hawk Junior Varsity would finish the night 1-2 as they won their opening game of the match by a 25-20 score, but lost the second game 13-25 and the final game 11-15.

Emmetsburg’s Freshmen girls would fall in straight sets, losing by a score of 13-21 in the first game, 14-21 in the second game and 13-21 in the final game of the match.

The Emmetsburg volleyball team will next see action this Saturday when they travel to Humboldt to play in the Wildcat Tournament. Play is slated to begin at 9 a.m. at Humboldt High School.

The netters will then play on Saturday, Sept. 3 in the Sheldon Tournament.
