E-Hawk Players Earn Post Season Recognition
Several members of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk baseball team received post-season honors for their play during the season with inclusion on the 2016 Lakes Conference All Conference teams.
Earning a berth on the Lakes Conference First Team All Conference squad was senior pitcher Dillon VanOosbree, while Junior Brent Wesley was named to one of the utility positions on the Second Team All Conference squad. Earning Honorable Mention recognition from the Emmetsburg ballclub were senior Spencer Bird and junior Matt Kibbie.
As one of the three pitchers on the First Team All Conference squad, Dillon VanOosbree would make eight starts on the mound for the E-Hawks during the past season and appeared in seven more games to amass a 5-5 record. In 64 and a third innings of work, Van Oosbree allowed 62 hits and 18 earned runs for an ERA of 1.96 while issuing 21 walks and striking out 61 batters and hitting five batters. Opposing batters had a .241 batting average when facing VanOosbree.
Offensively, VanOosbree played in 31 games and went to the plate 91 times, scoring 23 runs off 33 hits, including four triples and four doubles with 23 RBI’s. He was walked 19 times, struck out just five times and stole five bases for a .363 batting average to lead Emmetsburg. When playing defense, Dillon made 56 put-outs in 65 attempts and made 135 catches for a .896 fielding percentage.
Earning a Utility position on the Second Team All Conference squad, Brent Wesley played in all 31 of the E-Hawks’ games this season, and went to the plate 106 times, scoring 14 runs off 33 hits, including three doubles and 17 RBI’s. Brent was walked on six occasions, struck out 11 times, but stole nine bases to earn a .311 batting average. Playing in left field during the season, Wesley made 19 put-outs off 28 catches for a fielding percentage of .821.
In being accorded Honorable Mention, Spencer Bird saw action in all 31 games during the season, playing at first base and as the E-Hawks’ designated hitter. Bird would go to the plate 81 times and scored three runs off 20 hits with two doubles and eight RBI’s. He was walked five times and struck out 23 to earn a .247 batting average. When on defense, Bird made six put outs off seven catches for a .857 fielding percentage.
Matt Kibbie also earned Honorable Mention on the basis of his play as a pitcher for the E-Hawks during the season. Kibbie would play in 21 games, starting in 13 and making eight starts on the hill and relieving in seven games for a 2-5 record with two saves.. Kibbie would work 49 and two-thirds innings, giving up 40 hits and 25 earned runs for an ERA of 1.84, while issuing 20 walks and striking out 30 batters while hitting just two batters. Opposing hitters managed a .207 batting average against Kibbie.
When on offense, Kibbie made 10 trips to the plate and scored three runs off two hits with one walk and four strikeouts, along with two stolen bases for a .200 batting average. Matt would make seven put-outs off 18 catches for a .944 fielding percentage.
