E-Hawks Open Post Season With 13-0 Victory
FOREST?CITY – It only took five innings Saturday night for Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks to earn a 13-0 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in the first round of Class 2A District baseball tournament play. The win advances the E-Hawks to a District matchup with Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Tuesday evening, July 12, at 5 p.m. in Clear Lake.
The E-Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off a run from Cole Jackson that scored off a triple by Dillon VanOosbree.
After limiting the Cowboys to a single and a walk in the top of the second, Emmetsburg would come up in the bottom of the frame and opened the floodgates.
Brent Wesley led off with a base hit before Will Jackson was walked. Spencer Bird reached on an error that allowed Wesley to score a run. After a strikeout by Max Dunlap, an error allowed Jackson to score before Thomas Schultes doubled. A strikeout of Will Schany would follow, but Cole Jackson reached on an error that allowed Bird to score for a 4-0 lead with two outs.
Thomas Schultes would score a run off a balk call on the CG/D pitcher before Dillon VanOosbree was hit by a pitch. Wes Schultes would be hit by a pitch on the next at-bat to load the bases and was replaced on base by Hunter McAllister.
An error on Brent Wesley’s at-bat allowed Cole Jackson to score and a passed ball would bring VanOosbree over the plate as well for a 7-0 lead. Will Jackson would send a double to right field to score McAllister and Wesley before a line out by Bird ended the inning with Emmetsburg holding a 9-0 advantage.
The Cowboys would strand a runner in the top of the third, but in the bottom of the inning, Emmetsburg scored four more runs. Max Dunlap reached on an error before Thomas Schultes grounded out. Will Schany would single to allow Dunlap to plate his run and Cole Jackson singled after that. A double from Dillon VanOosbree scored Schany and Jackson and an error on the pitch allowed VanOosbree to cross the plate for a 13-0 lead before the E-Hawks were retired to end the inning.
In the fourth, CG/D was retired in order and the E_Hawks would get a single from Matt Kibbie, but a line drive by?Dylan Kibbie resulted in a double play to end the inning.
The E-Hawk defense did what it needed to do in the top of the fifth, retiring the Cowboys in order to earn the 13-0 win.
Matt Kibbie earned the win on the hill, going five innings and giving up one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts.
The E-Hawks got a triple and double from Dillon VanOosbree and doubles from Will Jackson and Thomas Schultes, while Cole Jackson had two singles. Will Schany, Brent Wesley and Matt Kibbie all added singles to the winning effort for Emmetsburg in the tourney opener.
