E-Hawks Blanked At Spencer
SPENCER – The regular season closed on a down note Wednesday night as Emmetsburg fell to Spencer by a 5-0 tally. The loss give Emmetsburg a 14-14 overall mark and 6-8 Lakes Conference record.
The E-Hawks would be denied in every inning on Wednesday night as their offense struggled to come up with hits. After stranding a runner in the top of the first, Emmetsburg would go down a run when Spencer scored.
The E-Hawks were retired in order in the second and Spencer stranded two runners before the E-Hawks went down in order in the third inning. The favor would be returned to the Tigers, however, to end the third inning with Emmetsburg trailing 1-0.
The two teams traded outs in the fourth frame but in the top of the fifth, Will Jackson got to first on a dropped third strike, but would be left waiting. Spencer would push two runs over the plate with two out in their half of the fifth to take a 3-0 advantage.
Thomas Schultes drew a leadoff walk to start the sixth, but was put out at third off Will Schany’s fielders’ choice, only to see Schany put out on Cole Jackson’s fielders’ choice to end the at-bat with Jackson looking for a way home.
In the bottom of the sixth, Spencer would add two more runs to take a 5-0 lead and in the top of the seventh, Wes Schultes got the E-Hawks’ first hit of the game off a double, which was followed by a single from Brent Wesley, but the opportunity ended after Will Jackson flew out and Spencer Bird hit a line shot to second that put Wesley out and Bird out on a double play to end the game.
Matt Kibbie pitched four innings and surrendered one run off two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Dillon VanOosbree relieved for the final two frames but gave up four runs, two earned, off six hits with one strikeout.
Emmetsburg’s lone hits were the double from Wes Schultes and the single from Brent Wesley.
