By Staff | Jul 7, 2016

FONDA – Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks got an early lead and held on to earn a 3-1 victory over Newell-Fonda Tuesday night. The win improves the E-Hawks to 14-13 on the season.

The E-Hawks led off with a strike out by Will Schany, but Cole Jackson would double, and Dillon VanOosbree was hit by a pitch before Wes Schultes was walked to load the bases. Brent Wesley flew out, but Will Jackson drew a walk to score his brother Cole.

A walk of Max Dunlap scored VanOosbree before Schultes came home off a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead before Thomas Schultes struck out to end the at-bat.

Newell-Fonda was retired in order in the bottom of the first and in the top of the second, Emmetsburg stranded Dillon VanOosbree before setting the Mustangs down in order in their half of the inning.

Will Jackson would walk in the third, but was caught stealing as Emmetsburg went down quickly, but good defense stopped Newell-Fonda in the bottom of the third, stranding a runner for the Mustangs.

The E-Hawks got a single from Spencer Bird in the top of the fourth and a walk from Will Schany with one out, but a fly out and a single by Dillon VanOosbree would leave three E-Hawks looking for a way home when Wes Schultes lined out to end the at-bat.

Newell-Fonda would push a run over the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-1 off a single and triple, but left a runner waiting.

Emmetsburg would get a double from Brent Wesley and a single from Will Jackson in the top of the fifth, but left the pair waiting. Newell-Fonda would also strand two in their half of the inning. In the top of the sixth, Cole Jackson singled but was left waiting and the Mustangs left a runner on base after a walk.

Will Jackson would be hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh, but would be left waiting at third base when the opportunity ended. But the Emmetsburg defense retired Newell-Fonda in order to preserve the win.

Wes Schultes got the win on the mound, going the distance and giving up one earned run off four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

The E-Hawks got a double and single from Cole Jackson and a double from Brent Wesley, along with hits from Dillon VanOosbree and Spencer Bird.
