Boys Of Summer Drop Pair Of League Contests

Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks lost a heartbreaking 5-4 extra-inning affair to Estherville Lincoln Central on Wednesday and a 2-1 decision to Storm Lake on Friday in Lakes Conference baseball action. The setbacks give Emmetsburg a 4-7 mark on the year.

Emmetsburg got out to a 4-0 lead in four innings on Wednesday at ELC before the Midgets could plate a run, but then ELC tied the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into four more innings before plating a run in the bottom of the 11th to steal the win from the E-Hawks.

Matt Kibbie would make the start on the hill for Emmetsburg, working seven and a third innings and giving up four earned runs off seven hits, with five walks and one strikeout. Dillon VanOosbree relieved for two-thirds of an inning and got one strikeout. However, Wes Schultes would be charged with the loss, as he relieved two and a third innings and gave up one earned run off five walks with two strikeouts.

The E-Hawks got a double from Wes Schultes, while Will Schany, Brent Wesley and Max Dunlap both had two hits each an Dillon VanOosbree, Cole Jackson and Thomas Schultes all had base hits in the loss.

After an evening off, the E-Hawks hosted the Storm Lake Tornadoes in Lakes Conference action and were edged in a 2-1 decision Friday night.

The teams played two innings of scoreless baseball in a defensive battle, but Storm Lake plated two runs in the top of the third inning before Emmetsburg answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth frame. Neither team would score in the final three innings as the defenses settled in to end the game in the 2-1 final score.

Dillon VanOosbree would go the distance on the hill, allowing two unearned runs off five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Emmetsburg’s offense was led by the double from Spencer Bird along with singles from Will Schany, Brent Wesley and Cole Jackson in the effort.
