The Lady Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard took home a 4-1 win over Emmetsburg in a softball matchup Tuesday night in Emmetsburg.

A leadoff single by Emma Thatcher would turn into a run off a single from Taylor Elbert for the Lady Wolverines in the top of the first, while Emmetsburg could only manage a walk for Kate Jackson before the inning ended.

Emmetsburg pitcher Mikayla Frerichs would strike out the Lady Wolverines in order in the top of the second, and Emmetsburg would get Annie Brennan on base off an error at first base. A sacrifice bunt from Emma Anderson moved pinch runner Ali Laubenthal to second and a sacrifice by Lindsay Carter brought Laubenthal to third before Mikayla Frerichs rapped out a single to score her teammate to tie the game before the inning ended.

In the top of the third, West Bend-Mallard would get a single from Emma Thatcher before Jessica Morey got on base off an error, but the two runners were left waiting when Emmetsburg’s defense made the stop.

The Lady E-Hawks would get Jenna Chapman on base off a dropped third strike in the bottom of the third and Kate Jackson added a single before Chapman was thrown out at third on a fielders’ choice of Gillian Nolan’s at-bat. However, a put out of Annie Brennan at first would leave Jackson and Nolan waiting to end the inning.

After a quick strikeout of Trissa Schmidt to open the fourth, the Lady Wolverines got a single into left center from Taylor Fogarty, but she would be stranded at second when Madison Wickman was put out at first and Autumn Mogler struck out. Emmetsburg would get a single from Lindsay Carter, but left her at third base when the side was retired.

With the score knotted at 1-1 to start the fifth, WBM led off with Trissa Schmidt striking out, but singles from Emma Thatcher and Elizabeth Gehrt and a sacrifice from Taylor Elbert would score runs by Thatcher, Jessica Morey, who was hit by a pitch to get on base, and Gehrt to give the Lady Wolverines a 4-1 advantage.

Emmetsburg would get a single from Kate Jackson as well, but also left her waiting at second when the inning ended.

WBM got a single from Taylor Fogarty in the top of the sixth, but left her stranded, while Emmetsburg would get a single from Annie Brennan in the sixth and a base hit from Linnea Ankeny, but couldn’t produce any runs.

In the seventh, WBM was retired in order. Emmetsburg got a single from Jenna Chapman but couldn’t convert anything as the game ended.

Mikayla Frerichs took the loss for Emmetsburg in the circle, giving up four runs, three earned, off seven hits with 11 strikeouts.

The Lady Wolverines’ Taylor Fogarty got the win in the circle, giving up one run off seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Emmetsburg would get two hits from Kate Jackson and hits from Annie Brennan, Jenna Chapman Lindsay Carter, Mikayla Frerichs and Linnea Ankeny.

For West Bend-Mallard, Emma Thatcher had three hits, while Taylor Fogarty had two hits and Elizabeth Gehrt and Taylor Elbert each had one hit in the winning effort.
