Connelly Qualifies For NJCAA National Tournament

Former Emmetsburg golf standout and Iowa Lakes Women’s Golf player Ashton Connelly earned the right to advance to the NJCAA Women’s National Golf tournament this weekend. Connelly, along with teammates Taylor Knight and Kelley Harris played in the Region 11 tournament over the weekend at Otter Creek Country Club in Ankeny.

After the first day of the tournament on Friday, Connelly led the way shooting an 88 to stand in 10th place, while Taylor Knight shot a 91 and was in 18th place, while Kelley Harris shot a 99, tied for 23rd place.

However, Saturday dawned rainy and windy, forcing officials to cut the tournament to a 27-hole event.

Battling the conditions, Ashton Connelly would finish tied for 13th place, shooting a 140 through 27 holes. Taylor Knight shot a 141 through 27 holes to finish in 18th place and Kelley Harris came in with a 149 to finished in 23rd place.

Following a five-player playoff, Connelly earned one of the three spots with a bogey in the playoff to go to the National Tournament in Daytona Beach, FL. The Tournament will run May 16th through the 19th.
