Emmetsburg Hot Shots Off To Solid Start

The Emmetsburg Hot Shots Trapshooting teams officially opened their competitive season on April 16 with an Invitational at Sportsmans’ Park. A total of 49 squads, featuring 233 shooters, turned out over two days of action.

In the Intermediate shooters’ action, “Hot Shots Snap” captured first place as squad members Don Strohman, Matt Berkland, Gavin Jorgenson, Aaron Olson, and Jon Lace shot a combined score of 194.

Gavin Jorgenson took home the first place in the Intermediate boys division with his impressive 47 score.

Aurora Peters and Hannah Adams tied for fifth in the Intermediate Girls’s division, each with a 29, with Aurora winning the tie-breaker.

The Emmetsburg Rookie team of Carson Hoffman, Esben Enriquez, Olivia Lace, Ryan Brennan, and Zoe Sabin just missed placing third by one target.

Carson Hoffman tied for second place for the Rookie Boys, and won the tiebreaker to bring home the medal.

Bre Henricksen earned fourth place in the Rookie girls with a 16.

On Wednesday, April 20, two squads traveled to Algona to shoot. An Intermediate squad of Donald Strohman, Matt Berkland, Gavin Jorgenson, Aaron Olson, and Hannah Adams won first place. Donald earned high individual boy with a 45, with Gavin and Matt ending in a tie for second with a 43 score. The tie was broken in a shoot-off with Gavin winning the shoot-off for final placing.

Another intermediate squad of Jacob Frields, Kyle Kogel, Aurora Peters, Elyssa Flannegan, and Dallas Clark finished in second place. Aurora received high individual girl with a 37, and Elyssa was awarded 2nd with a 30.

High School shooters Conner Crosgrove, Dalton Bunda, Austin Bergstrom, and Zane Wickman also competed as individuals.

On Saturday, April 23, the Hot Shots split squads, with one group going to Rock Valley. Those shooters traveling to Rock Valley were Aaron Olson, Cole Rouse, Jordan Anderson, Aurora Peters, and Dallas Clark and they earned second high in Intermediate competition.

Aaron Olson tied for High individual Intermediate with a 44, but was not available for tie-breaker and placed second. A total of 200 shooters participated in the Rock Valley event.

The second squad of Hot Shots traveled to Alta. Those shooters were Esben Enriquez, Bre Henricksen, Zoe Sabin, and Olivia Lace. Esben tied for high individual boy, but was not available for the shoot-off and finishes second. Bre won high individual girl, with Olivia receiving second high girl honors.

Also shooting at Alta was an Intermediate squad of Matt Berkland, Jacob Frields, Kyle Kogel, Tyler Stokes, and Elyssa Flannagan. This team won second Intermediate squad. Elyssa tied for third high girl, but was not available for the shoot-off. and placed fourth. Tyler Stokes was in a 3-way tie for High individual, but had to battle a gusty wind in the shoot-off at the end of the day, and received third place.

Also competing were Brady Cooke and Bryce Cooke. Brady shot a personal best under the bad weather conditions.

The High School Hot Shots were represented by Austin Bergstrom, Zane Wickman, Dalton Bunda, and Tyler Thompson.

The Hot Shots will host a competition this Saturday at Sportsmans’ Park at Cylinder. The public is invited to come out and watch the young shooters.
