Lady E-Hawks End Season In Regional Tourney Opener
BRITT – The post season started and ended Saturday night for Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks as they fell 55-35 to Britt-West Hancock in the first round of Class 2A Regional tournament action. The loss ends emmetsburg’s season at 3-18.
Emmetsburg would battle with the host Eagles of West Hancock through the first quarter, trailing by just two buckets, at 12-16 to end the first quarter of play.
But in the second quarter, West Hancock was able to find its’ long-range offense, and began knocking down three-point shots to boost them to a 31-17 lead over Emmetsburg at the half-time intermission, as the Lady E-Hawks struggled to get the ball to the hoop in the quarter.
In the third quarter, Emmetsburg would get their offense back on track, and were able to add 10 points to their tally in the quarter, while West Hancock would score 14 to take a 44-27 lead to start the final eight minutes of the contest.
Down the stretch, Emmetsburg would continue to fight hard, but could not counter West Hancock’s three-point shooting that would lead to the 55-35 final tally to end Emmetsburg’s season.
Kayla Joyce would lead Emmetsburg’s offense on the night, scoring 13 points, while teammate Kate Jackson came away with 12 points in the effort. Senior Jenna Chapman closed out her prep career with six points, while fellow senior Kaity Mason added a bucket for two points and Bailey Naig rounded out the scoring with two points.
