E-Hawks Fifth At Bob Roethler Invitational

Emmetsburg’s E-Hawk wrestlers earned a fifth place finish in the 10-team field at the 2015 Bob Roethler Invitational Tournament Saturday in Emmetsburg. The E-Hawks crowned a champion in Gage Jamison and brought home three third place finishes, a fourth place, three fifth place finishes and a sixth place finish on the day.

Gage Jamison would earn his 160 pound title with a 10-5 decision over Blake Anderson of Odeboldt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove. During the day, Jamison also scored a 12-3 Major decision over Alex O’Connor of Hastings, MN in the quarterfinals and an 11-8 decision over Lincoln Coakley of Estherville Lincoln Central in the semi-finals.

At 132 pounds, Carson Clark earned third place overall with a 2:30 win by fall over Zach Johnson of Lake Mills, Clark would win by fall in 1:27 over Chase Large of Storm Lake, but was pinned in 3:22 by Caleb Kramer of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. Clark then pinned teammate Nolan Greene in 2:40 to earn the consolation round berth.

In action at 152, Conner Crosgrove earned a 1:10 win by fall over Devin Behrendsen of OA/BC-IG, but lost a 1-0 decision to Basyl Horsey of Storm Lake. Crosgrove then pinned Braeden Schulte of CL/GLR in :52 to advance to the third place match.

Robert Nelson would take third at 220 pounds with a 1:49 win by fall over Amed Castro-Chavez of Estherville Lincoln Central in the consolation final. Nelson started the day with a 1:43 win by fall over Castro-Chaves in the quarterfinals, but lost a 15-7 Major Decision to Jackson Schichel of Hastings, MN in the semis. Nelson would then pin Corbin Studer of West Bend-Mallard/Gil-more City-Bradgate in 1:07 to advance to the consolation final.

At 145, Dillon VanOosbree would come up short in a 9-4 decision to Treyton Virtue of CL/GLR to finish fourth. VanOosbree started the day with a 3:18 win by fall over Isiah Huey of Okoboji, but was pinned in 1:50 by Kyle Erickson of Hastings. VanOosbree then pinned Logan Brown of Storm Lake in :41 to move to the consolation final.

At 126 pounds, Spencer Griffin would take fifth place with a 16-0 Technical Fall in 4:07 over Nile Christensen of CL/GLR. Griffin began the day with a :42 win by fall over Elijah Taylor of ELC, and pinned Ethan Berven of Emmetsburg in 1:18, but would lose a 6-3 decision to Jake Wulff of OA/BC-IG in the semi-finals. In the consolation semis, Griffin would lose a 7-1 decision to Connor Allison of St. Edmond to move to the fifth place match.

Also finishing fifth was Jackson Knight at 138 pounds. Knight won by injury default over Mitch VanBeek of CL/GLR, Knight started out with a 2:53 pin of Neftali Casillo of Storm Lake, but was pinned in 1:06 by Payton Sitzmann of St. Edmond. Knight then won an 18-2 Technical Fall in 4:13 over McKinna Faulkenberry of OA/BCIG before being pinned by Colbin Larue of Okoboji to move to the fifth place match.

At 195 pounds, Jimmie Steffens pinned Mickey Vasquez of Storm Lake to take fifth, after starting the day being pinned in 2:45 by Austin Winkel of CL/GLR. Steffens was then pinned in 1:11 by Tyler Anderson of OA/BCIG to move to the fifth place match.

Rounding out the placings for the E-Hawks was Nolan Greene at 132 pounds, as he would fall victim of a 1:26 pin at the hands of Chase Large of Storm Lake. Greene began the dayy being pinned in 3:36 by Zach Johnson of Lake Mills, before winning a 5-2 decision over Bradeon Edwards of Lake Mills. However, Greene would fall to teammate Carson Clark in 2:40 before falling in the fifth place match.

Other results for Emmetsburg included Andrew Walker at 113 pounds, where he lost two matches by falls and did not place. At 120 pounds, Christian Nichols lost a decision and was pinned and did not place.

At 170 pounds, Austin Noll would fall victim to a pair of pins and did not place. At 182, Brian Wickman would also be pinned in both matches and did not earn a placing. Matthew Hill, wrestling at 285 pounds, would also be pinned in two matches and did not place.

The E-Hawks return to action Thursday with a Lakes Conference double dual with Spencer and Western Christian at Hull, starting at 6 p.m. Then on Saturday, Dec. 19, the E-Hawks will travel to Fort Dodge to wrestle in the Fort Dodge Invitational Tournament,
