POCAHONTAS?- The Emmetsburg E-Hawks officially opened their season with a 71-42 loss to Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon in boys action Tuesday night.

The game would start out well enough for the E-Hawks as they got a pair of three-point shots from Wes Schultes and Thomas Schultes to take an early lead over the Indians, but PAC/LM?would rally towards the end of the quarter to take a 17-14 lead at the ed of the period.

Turnovers would begin to plague the E-Hawks in the second quarter, as on numerous possessions, a mis-handled pass would result in a turnover or a steal for the Indians, who were able to make best of the opportunities. Pocahontas Area/LM?would outscore Emmetsburg 19-4 in the second quarter to extend their lead to a 36-18 tally at the half time break.

Emmetsburg would continue to struggle offensively at times in the second half, as shots would not fall for the E-Hawks in the third quarter. The Indians were able to use their speed and a slight height advantage to outscore Emmetsburg 21-10 in the quarter to post a 57-28 lead at the end of three quarters of play.

Down the stretch, Emmetsburg was able to gest a better flow to its offense, scoring 14 points down the stretch, but it would be too little too late as Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon went on to take the 71-42 final margin of victory.
