Wolverines Win Big To Advance To Quarterfinals

JANESVILLE – The start of the post season gave the West Bend-Mallard/Gil-more City-Bradgate Wol-verines a challenge last Wednesday, but Monday’s second round game would showcase the Wolverines in a 75-45 win over the Janesville Wildcats. The win sends the Wolverines into an Eight-Man Quarterfinal matchup this Friday night at Marcus against the Eagles of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.

“We came out and attacked and played Wolverine football the way we know how,” Wolverine Head Coach Pete Kapustynski said. “We just came out to play football and hit people like we know how.”

The two teams would trade possessions to start the contest, but with 2:00 to go in the opening frame, the Wolverines broke the ice as Nolan Roger Dahlhauser broke loose for a 40-yard scoring run. The conversion kick failed, making the score 6-0 when the quarter ended in favor of the Wolverines.

Janesville would soon tie the score off a nine-yard touchdown pass reception, but their conversion failed for the 6-6 tie.

WBM/GCB was not phased, as on the resulting possession, Travis Fehr scampered into the end zone from 18 yards away. Jack Banwart would catch the conversion pass from Nolan Roger Dahlhauser to give the Wolverines the 14-6 advantage.

The Wolverines would score on their next possession after forcing a punt by the Wildcats. Nolan Roger Dahlhauser would run in from the five-yard line to score and the conversion kick from Gustav Taljegard made the score 21-6 midway through the second frame.

Janesville would find an answer, as they would score off a three yard run, but couldn’t come up with a conversion for a 21-12 tally. The Wolverines would have a punt blocked at their eight yard line, but the defense held firm and got the ball back on downs. But, Janesville would pick off a Nolan Roger Dahlhauser pass and used the turnover to create a 32 yard pass reception score to cap off the half, but again the conversion failed to make the score 21-18 at the intermission.

While the game was close in the first half, the Wolverines took command after the break and went on a scoring binge in the third quarter. WBM/GCB would cap off their first possession with a two-yard run by Nolan Robert Dahlhauser and Taljegard’s kick made the score 28-18.

Janesville would get the ball, but the Wolverine defense would recover a fumble as Harmon Atwood raced 50 yards with the stolen ball to score. The kick would make the score 35-18, but the Wolverines were far from finished.

Janesville would come up with a 79 yard kickoff return for a score, but the conversion failed for a 35-24 score.

After and exchange of possessions, the Wolverines would get the ball back on another Janesville fumble when Atwood picked up the loose ball and raced 22 yards for his second score of the quarter. The kick would fail, making the score 41-24.

After a punt by the Wildcats, the Wolverines got a huge 50-yard run from Travis Fehr for a score, and Taljegard punched the kick through the uprights for a 48-24 advantage.

The Wolverines would add one more score in the third quarter when Travis Fehr scored off an 18-yard run, and Taljegard’s kick made the score 55-24 as the third quarter came to a close.

Janesville would score early in the final frame off a three yard run and the kick made the score 55-31, but Nolan Roger Dahlhauser would answer with a 46 yard run for a score on the next possession. the kick made the score 62-31, but the Wildcats would answer with a two yard run and conversion for a 62-38 tally.

Nolan Roger Dahlhauser answered back, this time off a 41-yard run to score as Taljegard kicked the ball for the 69-38 score.

After a quick turnover, the Wolverines would tack on one final touchdown as Dexter Knobloch scored from three-yards away, but the kick failed, making the score 75-38.

But, the Wildcats would make one final statement with a 31-yard punt return for a touchdown, and the kick would make the 75-35 final score.

For the Wolverines, Nolan Roger Dahlhauser ran the ball 16 times, but racked up 244 yards while scoring five touchdowns. Travis Fehr rushed five times for 75 yards and two touchdowns, while Dexter Knobloch added two carries for 27 yards and a score.

Nolan Robert Dahlhauser made six carries for 21 yards and a touchdown and Thad Fogarty had two carries for 12 yards.

Harmon Atwood would score two touchdowns off fumble recoveries of 45 and 22 yards.

Nolan Roger Dahlhauser would complete five of 13 passes for 79 yards with one interception. Jack Banwart made two catches for 34 yards and a catch for a two-point conversion, while Taylor Bennett had a catch for 31 yards and Dani Riesenberg added one catch for 14 yards.

Defensively, the Wolverines got 13 tackles from Dalton Knobloch, while Nolan Grimm added 13 tackles and a sack. Travis Fehr and Jack Banwart both made two quarterback sacks, along with Nolan Roger Dahlhauser and Colton Wickman and Dexter Knobloch added one sack.

Thad Fogarty and Dalton Knobloch both added interceptions to the defensive effort.

The Wolverines will return to Marcus this Friday night for a rematch against Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
