Emmetsburg Middle School Runners Win Washburn Junior High State Meet

STATE?CHAMPIONS!?- The Emmetsburg Middle School Girls won the Class 1A State Championship this past Saturday at the Washburn Classic Junior High State Cross Country Meet in Ankeny. ANKENY – A?team of seventh and eighth grade runners from the Emmetsburg Middle School captured the team championship in the Class 1A Division of the 21st Annual Washburn State-Wide Junior High Cross Country Meet this past Saturday. The event was run at Centennial High School in Ankeny.

The Emmetsburg Middle School girls would score a total of 34 points to beat Central Elkader, Pekin, Earlham, Panorama and Nodaway Valley in the 1A Team competition.

For Emmetsburg, Raven Brown would lead the effort of the girls with a 12:03 time, which gave her second place overall.

Gabrielle Janssen would finish seventh overall with a time of 12:58, while Isabella Householder finished 10th in a time of 13:20.

Hailey Foxhoven earned 15th place with a time of 13:34, while Raylene Poeppe finished 17th in 13:42.

Allison Fischer would turn in a 13:56 clocking to finish in 19th place finish. Jamie Bird would round out the Emmetsburg finishes with her time of 15:15.

A total of 47 runners participated in the event, which is open to all junior high age runners in the state. Competition was offered for both boys and girls in Class 1A and 2A. The event is sponsored by the Iowa Track Coaches Association.
