Emmetsburg Harriers Sweep Own Invitational Meet
Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams pulled off a clean sweep of the competition Monday at their own Invitational as both the Lady E-Hawk and E-Hawk varsity squads won their divisions along with the Middle School girls and Junior Varsity boys.
“That is a great thing for all these kids!” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Valerie Pickett. “The middle school ladies have remained undefeated and continue to look very strong. They will have a few more tests coming their way in the next couple of weeks and I know they will rise to the challenge.”
For the Middle School girls, Raven Brown won in a time of 13:26, while Gabrielle Janssen was third in 13:58. Isabella Householder would finish seventh in 114:37, while Raylene Poeppe finished tenth in 14:58.
Hailey Foxhoven earned 12th place with a 15:00 clocking, while Allison Fischer turned in a 15:36 effort to place 19th.
Taylor Steinkamp finished 31st with a 16:31, while Kristen Davis was 51st in 18:28. Annie Brennan finished 54th in 18:54, while Maggie Nelson finished 75th in 21:08 and Isabel Nichols placed 81st in a time of 22:48.
The middle school boys were led by Michael King’s 17th place finish in 14:21. Cade Jacobson was 18th in 14:24 and Anthony Garber finished 63ed in 19:27.
The Junior Varsity boys would be led by Daniel Groth as he won the event in 21:39. Takoda Harris was second in 21:53 and Silvan Hofer place third in 22;05. Alex Gray finished fourth in 22:47, while Christian Strohman finished fifth with a 23:53 effort.
Dalton Hauschen earned sixth place with a time of 24:05, while Marciano Remold was seventh in 24:15. Michael Frerichs was eighth in 24:36 and Jordan Wiley finished 10th in 27:01.
For the Varsity girls, Ashely Overberg took the top honors as she won the event in a time of 22:30. Darion Helle finished third in 23:23, while Jordan Hoyman was seventh with a time of 24:06. Mary Nelson finished 12th with a 26:05 and Hannah Merwald turned in a 26:22 to finish 14th. Alli Enriquez finished 22nd with a time of 30:25 and Kristen Kassel was 24th with a time of 34:34.
“Ashley Overberg won her first individual high school title! She looked great from start to finish. She is aggressive at the start and remains that way throughout the race.” noted Coach Pickett.
The Varsity Boys division saw Nick Grandstaff earn second place honors with his 18:27 clocking, while Cruz Bowman finished seventh in 19:56. Adam Deitering was tenth with a time of 20:39 and Cole Jackson was 11th in 20:48. Nolan Greene would finish 12th with a time of 21:10 and Zach Mason also finished with a 21:10 for 13th place while Aaron Hutchison finished 15th with a 21:23 effort.
“The high school boys are continuing to step up and challenge each other. Every time they race it is exciting to watch since you don’t know what the order will be,” Coach Pickett admitted.
The Emmetsburg Harriers will compete next Monday at the Humboldt Invitational.
