After a tough loss to Spencer in the second week of the season, the Emmetsburg E-Hawks now look to begin district football play this Friday night. To open the district slate, the E-Hawks make the trip easterly to Sheffield for a matchup against the Warhawks of West Fork.

For Emmetsburg, the task at hand is to put the first two weeks of the season behind them and concentrate on what lies ahead – the district slate of contests.

First in line is Friday’s opponent, a winless West Fork team, that, despite being 0-2, are an opponent not to be taken lightly.

“West Fork has good size on their team and they also have good speed as well,”?noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “On offense, they work from the Wing-T, and they use the spinner back out of the shotgun, so we will have to be very aware of where the ball is at all times.”

The Warhawks will present a 5-2 look defense to the E-Hawks as well when the two teams meet up Friday night.

For the E-Hawks, the continued improvement and growth of the team is paramount.

“We have got to continue to improve on the offense and defense at playing assignment football,” noted Coach Dunlap. “And, we need to clean up on errors and mistakes. The mistakes we made are correctible and I have a ton of confidence in each and every player and I?know they will improve.”

Dunlap paused. “The biggest thing to remember is that the District is a whole new season and that’s how we need to approach this.”
