GT/RA’s Titans Earn Road Win Over North Iowa
BUFFALO CENTER – Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire took to the road on Friday and came home with a 63-24 win over the Bison of North Iowa. Once again, the Titans would get a stellar game out of quarterback Michael Girres with six touchdowns and a 70-yard kick return to lead the effort.
The Titans would get off to a slow start as the host Bison would take an early lead ;ess than a minute into the game on Friday,
But the Titans would answer the score with not one, but four touchdowns of their own on successive possessions in the opening quarter. Michael Girres would tie the game with a four-yard touchdown run, then on the next Titan possession, capped the drive off with a 10 yard score and scored on a 38 yard touchdown run.
The Titans would get an 18-yard touchdown reception from Jordan Thompson to give GT/RA a 29-6 lead when the first quarter came to a close.
The Titans stayed with the air for the next score as Girres found Noah Stukey with a 14-yard pass for a score and followed that up with a back-breaking 62-yard touchdown run from Tyler Hoffman. Ryan Sikora would kick a pair of extra points as the Titans now held a 43-6 lead prior to the end of the first half.
North Iowa would get a touchdown back just before the intermission to make the score 43-12.
GT/RA would start the second half with a 70-yard kickoff return by Girres just,:15 into the third quarter. North Iowa would score a touchdown midway through the third frame, but the Titans countered with a 15-yard dash by Alex Hoffman with just under 4:00 to go in the frame to take a 57-18 lead to start the final stanza.
The Bison would score in the fourth quarter off a big 41-yard touchdown run, but the Titans reserves got their chance to shine as Jacob Conlon would score off a 16-yard touchdown run with 3:51 to go in the game. Carter Anderson would add the conversion run for the 63-24 final tally.
For the Titans, Michael Giires rushed 15 times for 152 yards and completed two of three passes with one interception.
Tyler Hoffman added eight carries for 145 yards of rushing and Alex Hoffman added 76 yards from nine attempts. Jacob Conlon would make three Carter to gain 58 yards and Carter Anderson added three carries for 12 yards.
On the defense, Tyler Hoffman came up with a pass interception, a quarterback sack and five tackles while Alex Hoffman made seven tackles with two quarterback sacks. Jacob Conlon and Magnus Vangsbo each made five tackles and Eric Sundall had four tackles.
Graettinger-Terril/Ruth-ven-Ayrshire will travel to the west this week as they will take on the Eagles of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in Marcus on Friday night
