E-Hawks End Regular Season With Tough Loss

LGONA Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks closed out their regular season Wednesday night with an 8-11 loss to Bishop Garrigan at Algona. The loss ends Emmetsburg’s regular season at 10-17.

The E-Hawks would strand Greg Wesley in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom of the opening frame, Bishop Garrigan would push four runs over the plate to take a 4-0 lead to start the second inning.

Emmetsburg had an answer in the top of the second, as Zach Anderson reached on an error and Nick Chapman doubled before Jake Kibbie was walked to load the bases. An error allowed Anderson to score as Will Jackson got on base. A double from Dillon VanOosbree scored Chapman and Kibbie before Jackson came home on a throw to tie the game at 4-4 when VanOosbree was left waiting.

But the Golden Bears would reply in kind in their half of the inning with four more runs coming before the E-Hawk defense made the stop.

Trailing 8-4, the E-Hawks would get Wes Schultes and Zach Anderson on base, only to see Anderson put out on a double play on Nick Chapman’s at-bat and Schultes was caught stealing third to end the opportunity.

Bishop Garrigan would plate a run in the bottom of the third to take a 9-4 advantage into the fourth frame.

Jake Kibbie and Dillon VanOosbree both walked, but the duo were stranded when the at-bat ended. But Bishop Garrigan would also leave a runner waiting on base when the inning ended.

The E-Hawks opened the fifth with singles from Greg Wesley and Wes Schultes, but Schultes was put out on Zach Andersons’ fielders’ choice. A single from Nick Chapman scored Wesley and a single from Jake Kibbie brought Anderson over the plate for o 9-6 tally. A fielders’s choice on Will Jackson’s at-bat put Kibbie out and Cole Jackson was hit by a pitch to load the sacks. A walk of Dillon VanOosbree scored Max Dunlap, running for Chapman, before Will Jackson scored off a passed ball, but Luke Jackson would walk and was left waiting with Cole Jackson when the at-bat ended.

With their lead cut to a run at 8-9, Bishop Garrigan edged back out two runs in the bottom of the fifth off a single, a walk and an error to make the score 11-8 to end the fifth.

Emmetsburg would get Wes Schultes on base off an error and Jake Kibbie on base off a single, but the duo were stranded. Bishop Garrigan would get a pair of singles and a walk, but left two runners on base when the inning ended.

Emmetsburg would go down two outs to start the seventh, but Luke Jackson came up with a double, only to be left waiting when Greg Wesley was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike to end the game.

Luke Jackson pitched two innings, giving up eight runs, three earned, off three hits, with four walks. Greg Wesley pitched the final four innings, surrendering three runs, one earned, off five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The E-Hawks got doubles from Luke Jackson, Dillon VanOosbree and Nick Chapman, while Wes Schultes and Jake Kibbie both had two hits. Nick Chapman and Greg Wesley both added singles to the effort.
