Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks earned a split in their first two games of the week, falling 5-4 in a heartbreaker at Cherokee on Monday, but returned home for Senior Night on Tuesday to soar in a 12-7 win over Manson Northwest Webster to improve to 9-13 on the season.

The E-Hawks would strand Luke Jackson and Wes Schultes to lead off Monday’s contest at Cherokee, but returned the favor to the Braves, stranding a pair of Cherokee runners to end the first inning. The two teams would be retired in order in the second and third innings, so moving into the top of the fourth, the E-Hawks got Greg Wesley on base off an error to lead off the inning. After a strikeout by Schultes, Zach Anderson ripped a triple to the center field fence, scoring Wesley for a 1-0 lead before Anderson was left waiting at third. The Braves would strand a runner in their half of the fourth for a 1-0 Emmetsburg lead.

A leadoff strikeout by Will Jackson was followed by Cole Jackson drawing a walk. Dillon VanOosbree drew a walk and an error on Luke Jackson’s at-bat scored Cole Jackson. A single from Greg Wesley scored VanOosbree and Luke Jackson would come home on a double by Wes Schultes for a 4-0 lead before Wesley and Schultes were stranded when the opportunity ended.

Cherokee would go down in order in the bottom of the fifth to trail 4-0 as the sixth inning began.

After a strikeout by Jake Kibbie, Will Jackson walked, but was thrown out stealing third before Cole Jackson struck out to end the at-bat. But, the Braves would be retired in order to end the sixth inning.

Dillon VanOosbree led off with a walk in the top of the seventh, but after Luke Jackson struck out, VanOosbree was put out at second on a fielders’ choice on Greg Wesley’s at-bat before Wes Schultes struck out. Cherokee would come up and singled with a pair of walks before strikeout, but a walk brought home a run. Two more walks would score runs to make the score 4-3 before Emmetsburg got the second out off an infield fly, but one run would score after tagging up to tie the game at 4-4. But, the Braves would score the winning run off a steal to steal the win from the E-Hawks.

Dillon VanOosbree would pitch six innings, giving up three earned runs off one hit, with four walks and seven strikeouts. Greg Wesley relieved for a third of an inning and gave up two runs off three walks and a strikeout and Luke Jackson pitched a third of an inning.

The E-Hawks got a triple from Zach Anderson and a double and single from Wes Schultes, while Luke Jackson and Greg Wesley both had hits.

Tuesday night the E-Hawks celebrated Senior Night with a 12-7 win over Manson Northwest Webster.

Both teams would strand a runner in the first inning and in the top of the second, the Cougars went down in order. Emmetsburg would use two hits, two walks and three errors to get five runs over the plate as courtesy runner Brent Wesley, Jake Kibbie, Will Jackson, Cole Jackson and Dillon VanOosbree all came home for a 5-0 lead.

Manson Northwest Webster would rally in the top of the third, as they used a walk and four hits to score three runs in the contest but stranded a runner.

Emmetsburg would have an answer, though, as they used a wingle by Wes Schultes and a walk of Zach Anderson to score those two runs off a pair of throwing errors after the duo got on base to make the score 7-3 going into the fourth inning.

The Cougars were retired in order in the top of the fourth, but Emmetsburg scored two runs off a two-run homer from Luke Jackson after Dillon VanOosbree had rapped out a double with one out for the 9-3 lead to start the fifth inning.

The Cougars would get a walk and three hits to score two runs in their half of the fifth frame, cutting the deficit to 9-5. However, the E-Hawks used two walks, a single and a sacrifice to score Brent Wesley and Jake Kibbie to boost their lead to 11-5.

Manson Northwest Webster would get a walk, but left a runner stranded in the top of the sixth inning. Emmetsburg would get three walks in the bottom of the sixth frame, and then used a double from Zach Anderson to score Luke Jackson before the E-Hawks left Anderson, Bret Wesley and Jake Kibbie waiting on the bases when the inning ended.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Cougars would get a pair of base hits to lead off, and pushed both runs over the plate off a sacrifice fly, but a single turned into an out when the runner was thrown out at second by Jake Kibbie when he tried to stretch the single into a double and Will Jackson made the game-ending fly ball catch in right field for the win.

Nick Chapman went the distance on the hill, giving up seven runs, four earned, off 10 hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

The E-Hawks got a Home run and single from Luke Jackson, while Dillon VanOosbree tacked on a double. Wes Schultes, Zach Anderson, Jake Kibbie and Cole Jackson all added hits in the win for the E-Hawks.
