Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks would score early and then played good defense in a 3-0 win over Storm Lake in softball action Monday night. The win improves Emmetsburg to 10-6 on the season.

Storm Lake would be retired in order in the top of the first inning, and in their half of the inning, the Lady E-Hawks went to work quickly. After a quick put out of Ashley Overberg, Alexa Naig rapped out a single and was followed by Michaela Rehm with a base hit.

A wild pitch allowed Naig to score a run, and a base hit by Jenna Chapman scored Rehm for a 2-0 lead. Kate Jackson would add the fourth consecutive hit of the at-bat before a passed ball allowed Chapman to score her run, but a strikeout of Ashton Connelly and a put out of Hali Noll would end the inning, stranding Jackson at first base.

The Tornadoes would get a leadoff single in the top of the second, but a put out at first would follow before a line shot to Connelly, who caught the ball and turned and fired to Noll at first base to catch the runner off the bag for the double play to end the at-bat.

Emmetsburg would go down in order in the second, still holding the 3-0 lead.

Storm Lake would get another runner on base in the top of the third, but left her waiting at third. Emmetsburg would get Michaela Rehm on base off a walk, and an error put Jenna Chapman on at first, but a fielder’s choice on Kate Jackson’s at-bat out Rehm out at third and Chapman out at first to end the inning.

Storm Lake was retired in order in the fourth, and Emmetsburg got Hali Noll on base off a double. Pinch runner Natalie Kliegl would come in to run, but was thrown out at third stealing to end the opportunity.

Emmetsburg’s defense pulled off another double play in the top of the fifth inning after a walk. The second batter hit a one-hopper to second baseman Sarah Simington, who fielded the ball, reached out and tagged the runner coming from fist base and flipped the ball to Noll at first for the double play. A strikeout would retire Storm Lake after that.

Emmetsburg led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a base hit from Allison Freeman that was followed by a single from Simington. A Fielders’ Choice on Alexa Naig’s at-bat put Simington out at second, but Freeman and Naig would languish on base when the inning ended.

Storm Lake would get a runner on base off a dropped third strike in the top of the sixth, but left her waiting. The Lady E-Hawks led off the sixth with a single from Kate Jackson, but two outs would follow before Sarah Simington added a base hit, only to be stranded with Jackson when the inning ended.

In the top of the seventh, Storm Lake would be retired in order to end the contest with the 3-0 win for the Lady E-Hawks.

Ashton Connelly got the win for Emmetsburg, as she went seven innings, allowing two hits and giving up one walk while striking out six batters.
