Knights Of Columbus Free Throw Competition

LOCAL?WINNERS - The winners in Sunday’s Free Throw Competition advance to the District competition next month in Algona. The annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw competition was conducted Sunday afternoon at Corrigan Hall in Emmetsburg. Sponsored by Council 936 of the Knights of Columbus, a total of 28 local area youth participated in the compeitition.

Girls and Boys from nine to 14 years of age were eligible to compete, with each you receiving the opportunity to shoot 15 free throws. The best record of shots made won the competition in each age group.

In the girls’ competitiioin, Claire Kassel won the nine-year old division, while Taylor Steinkamp won the 10-year old division. Savannah Wolff won the competition for 11-year olds and Rachel Geelan earned the 13-year old girls championship.

Also competing in the competition were Katie Nelson, Maggie Nelson, Brielle Madden, Jessica Walker and Macy McAllister.

The boys’ nine-year old winner was Evan Schmidt, while Hunter Sandbulte took top honors in the 10-year old division. Winning the 11-year old competition was John Joyce, while Adam Dietering won the 12 year old division. Jacob Conlon would finish first for the 13-year old group and Trey Troug was first in the 14-year old division.

Also participating in the boys competition were Quinn Swift, Connor Geelan, Dominic Jurries, Bradley Conlon, Colby Sandbulte, Jared Lowry, Lex Kassel, Caleb Truog, Ethan Schmidt, Tim Geelan, Chris Conlon, Tommy Geelan and Andrew Walker.
