WBM/GCB Wolverines Fall To South Central Calhoun
WEST?BEND – The first half of the basketball season closed with a 74-64 loss for the West Bend-Mallard/Gil-more City-Bradgate boys last Friday night. The South Central Calhoun Titans handed the Wolverines the 10-point loss to drop WBM/GCB?to a 4-3 overall mark and 1-2 in the Cornbelt Conference at the holiday break.
South Central Calhoun would jump out to an early 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter as the two teams battled. In the second quarter, the Wolverines would get the offense firing away well to outscore South Central Calhoun by an 18-12 margin to tie the game up at 32-32 when the clubs went to the locker room.
The visitors would retake the lead in the third quarter, outscoring WBM/GCB by a 21-16 tally for a 53-48 advantage to start the final quarter of play. The final quarter would see the scoring duplicated, as South Central Calhoun outshot the Wolverines 21-16 for the 74-64 final tally.
For the Wolverines, Jason Zinnel led the offense with 24 points, while Jesse Zinnel added 17 points and Jordan Buhs chipped in 15 markers. Cole Banwart added six points to the efforts and Brady Jensen scored two points to round out the effort.
