E-Hawks Claim League Win Over Tornadoes

A?solid defensive effort and patient offense combined to give Emmetsburg its first Lakes Conference win of the season Tuesday in a 67-60 win over Storm Lake. The win give Emmetsburg a 1-2 mark in the Lakes Conference and 2-3 overall as the E-Hawks prepare for road games at Western Christian on Friday and South Central Calhoun on Saturday.

Tuesday’s contest opened with a fast pace as Storm Lake tried to push the ball up and down the court, but Emmetsburg persevered in setting the tempo of the game. Good defense would give Emmetsburg a 23-16 lead at the end of the first quarter and allowed the E-Hawks to post a 36-30 advantage at the end of the first half, despite a barrage of three-point shots from Storm Lake’s Parker Lange.

In the second half, the E-Hawks continued to play good defense and used patience on the offense to post a 57-46 lead at the end of the third quarter, and in the final frame, Emmetsburg was able to turn Storm Lake away in a late rally attempt to record the 67-60 win.

Emmetsburg got a game-high 28 points from Erik Drost, while Michael Pugh added 12 points to the effort. Shaun Erickson and Brandon Elbert would both chip in six points each for the E-Hawks, with Mike Myers adding five points. Austin Krause and Thomas Schultes both added four points each to the coffers , while Jacob Kibbie added two points.
