GT/RA?Girls Fall In Season Opening Contest
GRAETTINGER – The 2013-2014 girls basketball season opened Tuesday night for the Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. However, the first outing proved to be a little rugged as the Titans fell to Clay Central-Everly by a 51-41 score.
As the contest started, the Titans took an early lead and maintained it through the first quarter, enjoying a six-point advantage at one point until Clay Central-Everly narrowed the margin to trail by a digit, 10-9, at the close of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Titans’ start to struggle with shots, as the Mavericks were able to drop in a couple of shots from downtown to overtake GT/RA, and close out the second quarter holding a 24-20 lead over the Titans at the intermission.
GT/RA’s shooting woes would continue in the third quarter against the CC-E defense, as the deficit grew to 27-35 to start the fina quarter.
With fouls a concern, the Titans tried to cut into CC-E’s lead, but would come up short as leading scorer Brook Hoffman would foul out in the final minute of the game. Clay Central-Everly would hold on to earn the 51-41 final margin of victory in the contest.
Graettinger-Terril/ Ruthven-Ayrshire would be led by senior Brooke Hoffman’s 17 points. Morgan McGrauth would add eight points to the coffers, while Marly Bakken tallied five points. Grace Skattebo scored four points and Lauren Flaharty tallied three points. Emily Moran and Alex Oleson both scored two points to round out the Titan’s scoring.
The Titan girls will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at West Bend-Mallard/ Gilmore City-Bradgate.
The GT/RA?boys will play Friday, Nov. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Estherville Lincoln Central Jamboree.
