Titans Claim Victory At CWL

CORWITH – The Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruth-ven-Ayrshire collected a 49-20 win over Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne Friday night to close out the regular season with a 6-3 mark. Now, the thoughts turn to a First Round Playoff game in Correctionville this Wednesday night against River Valley at 7 p.m.

Friday night the Titans would strike first off a one-yard plunge into the end zone by Kyle Dalen with 8:50 to play in the quarter and after the conversion failed, a 6-0 lead. GT/RA?would score just before the end of the first stanza when Michael Girres found Jake Wegner with a 39-yard scoring strike with :04 to go in the quarter. The conversion failed, giving the Titans a 12-0 lead to start the second quarter.

After shutting CWL?down to start the second, the Titans got the ball back and drove downfield to score with 8:03 to go in the half. Marcus Girres made a one-yard pass to Wegner once again for the scoring reception.

But that was the opener of the floodgates.

After three and a punt by CWL, Michael Girres scored off a 10-yard run and on the next possession, the Titans got a 34-yard reception by Dalen with 5:07 to go in the half and a 30-0 lead.

Kyle Dalen would score off a 65-yard punt return with 3:23 to go in the half, but the Titans weren’t done just yet. With just :02 to play in the half, Mason McGrauth took the ball into the end zone from a yard out and a conversion kick made the score 43-0 at the intermission.

With a continuous clock in their favor to start the second half, Coach Todd Hough put the Titan’s reserves into the contest, and Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne was able to put a couple of scores on the board in the third period off a 10 yard run and a 75-yard punt return to make the score 43-14 when the third frame ended.

But in the final quarter, Graettinger-Terril//Ruthven /Ayrshire would get a final score as Tyler Hoffman found daylight for a 27-yard touchdown run just :15 into the final quarter to make the score 49-14.

CWL would add a final touchdown to end their school’s football program with 3:36 to go for the 49-20 final score.

The Titans would roll up 285 yards of rushing offense, with Michael Girres tallying 104 yards off seven rushing attempts. Tyler Hoffman carried the ball 15 times for 75 yards and Mason McGrauth added 42 yards off a half-dozen rushes.

Kyle Dalen gained 36 yard off 11 rushes and Marcus Girres added 14 yards from four rushing attempts.

Through the air, Michael Girres connected on four of five attempts for 73 yards and Marcus Girres connect on one of his two passing attempts for 41 yards.

Jake Wegner made a pair of catches for 80 yards, while Kyle Dalen had a 34-yard catch and Garrett Parker made a 20-yard reception for the Titans.

On the defensive side of the ball, Alex Hoffman led the Titans with seven tackles while Kyle Dalen, Cody Thompson and Matt McGrauth all added four tackles to the effort and Tyler Hoffman made a trio of stops.

Kyle Long recovered a fumble for GT/RA, while Ethan Petersen and Marcus Girres both intercepted passes.

CWL would rack up 205 yards rushing in the contest off 29 rushing attempts and lost one fumble.
