Saturday Night Under The Lights This Weekend

By Staff | Oct 3, 2013

A hugely successful youth program will celebrate its sixth season this Saturday night, Oct. 5, in Emmetsburg. The Seventh Annual E-Hawk Flag Football Program’s “Saturday Night Under the Lights” Event will kick off at 6 p.m. at Duane Twait Field at the Emmetsburg High School athletic complex.

This event provides families and friends of tomorrow’s E-Hawk football players a chance to see the future of E-Hawk football perform on historic Duane Twait Field, under the lights, just as the varsity E-Hawks play on Friday nights. Additionally, a barbeque supper is served prior to the event at the field as a fundraiser for continued operation of the program.

Over 125 youth will be participating in Saturday’s event, which is broken down by age groups. First and Second graders will scrimmage from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by Third and Fourth graders, who will scrimmage from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The Fifth and Sixth graders will close out the evening’s activities with scrimmages from 7:15 to 8 p.m.

Prior to the start of the scrimmages, a “Coming of Age” ceremony to honor the sixth graders is planned at 5:45 p.m. as those players will receive official Nike brand E-Hawk football jerseys to commemorate their completion of Flag Football.

The E-Hawk Flag Football program is made possible through the support of several local businesses and organizations, including Iowa Trust & Savings Bank, POET Biorefining, Creative Stitches, Emmetsburg Community School District, Hughes, Brennan & Wirtz Insurance, Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities, Emmetsburg Food Pride, Emmetsburg Publishing, E-Hawk Football Coach Mike Dunlap, Pronto Car Wash/E-Hawk Inc., Pizza Ranch, E-Pride, Dan Cooper Builders, Emmetsburg Screen Printing, Pioneer Seed – Chad Anderson, Ag Partners, Fareway Stores, Wallace’s Water Conditioning – Culligan, Palo Alto County Cattlemen, Jensvold Motors, Dr. Kimberly Zimmerman – DDS, Woodford Equipment, Wentzel True Value, Louscher Family Dentistry, Building Centers of Emmetsburg, Hardware Hank, Joyce Funeral Home and to Nick Stienkamp and KW Electric.

Along with the support of parents and family members, the Emmetsburg Flag Football program would not be successful without the volunteers who assist with coaching the youth and working with the program. Last but not least, members of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Varsity Football squad also donate their time and love of the game to work with their younger counterparts to help develop and nurture their love of the game.

Saturday Night Under the Lights is open to the public and all are invited to Duane Twait Field to attend a fun evening of watching the future of E-Hawk Football this Saturday at 6 p.m.
