Swimmers Open Campaign At Des Moines?Lincoln

By Staff | Sep 4, 2013

The Algona Area Girls Swim Team opened the season at Des Moines Lincoln, last Tuesday, losing to Lincoln and tying Perry.

“It was a good meet for us,” noted Coach Jim Fisher. “We have 15 girls out this year but nine of them are new faces. We’ve got 11 freshman and sophomores, but everybody got in the water for three or four events and I was able to see what they could do.”

The junior varsity Medley, comprised of Bridget Finley, Cam Shaw, Morgan Lanndorf and Michelle Goodman finished first and Ashlyn Reimers won the JV 50 Freestyle event.

On the varsity side, the Medley Relay Team of Casey Harms, Abby Strohman, Maddie Stubbs and Emma Plathe had a 2nd to Perry, Stubbs finished second to Lincoln and Perry.

In the 500 meter event, Jessica Anderson had a second to Lincoln and first with Perry, while the 200 Free Relay was second to Lincoln and Perry and Strohman was second to both teams.

“Both Strohman and Harms had personal best times,” Fisher noted. “There were a couple of surprises but for the most part it went as expected. We had two main goals, which were to score more than 20 points on Lincoln and we got 37 and beat Perry and we tied them. There were several personal best efforts as well, which is good to see.”

The next meet for the Algona Area squad will be Sept. 10 at Boone.
