Fall Sports Previews Set For Friday Night
With the Summer winding down and school back in session, thoughts in the area are turning towards the various Fall sports seasons at area high schools.
Fans of the local high schools in Palo Alto County will get to preview the 2014 Fall Sports seasons this Friday evening.
At Emmetsburg High School, the annual Scrimmages for the Emmetsburg athletic squads are set for Friday night, and as in past years, the admission to the scrimmages is a bottle of sports drink per person.
The evening will start at 4:30 p.m. with the annual E-Hawk Football Barbeque in the high school student center. Serving will continue through 6:30 p.m.
The Lady E-Hawk volleyball squads will scrimmage from 6 to 6:30 in the high school gym with introduction of players to follow.
At 6:30 p.m., the annual parents, athletes and coaches meeting will take place in the auditorium. A special featured speaker this year will be Mr. John Overton of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Emmetsburg Activities Director Joe Carter will address some general topics and Emmetsburg High School Principal Fred Matlage and Assistant Principal Tracie Christenson will discuss the district’s Eligibility and Good Conduct policies.
At 7 p.m. football players and their parents will meet in the auditorium with the football coaching staff, while high school volleyball players and parents will meet in the library. Middle school volleyball players and parents will meet in the Middle School gym, while the cross country athletes and their parents will meet in the high school band room and the cheerleaders will meet in the high school vocal music room.
At 7:40 p.m., the activity moves to Duane Twait Field where Coach Valerie Pickett and the Emmetsburg Cross Country squad members will be introduced to the public.
The football scrimmages will then kick off with the Freshman scrimmage at 7:45 p.m. with the Sophomore Scrimmage to follow at 8:05 p.m.
At 8:30 p.m. the Emmetsburg cheerleading squad will be introduced along with all high school football players and the E-Hawk varsity will close out the preview evening with the Black and White Scrimmage at 8:45 p.m.
Graettinger-Terril/ Ruthven-Ayrshire will unveil the second edition of the Titans’ shared athletic programs with a controlled scrimmage at Graettinger’s Evergreen Park and Rod Hough Field to allow a first look at the shared football program, which is under the leadership of Head Coach Todd Hough.
It’s a different story for the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate, as Coach Pete Kapustynski and the Wolverines open their 2013 gridiron season Friday night with a week zero game by traveling to Northwood to match up with Northwood-Kensett. This will be the third season that Head Coach Pete Kapustynski and the Wolverines have opened their campaign with an early-season game.
