E-Hawks Earn All Conference Honors Following Season

The Emmetsburg E-Hawk baseball team completed its 2013 season last week with a 12-14 overall mark and a 3-11 record in the Lakes Conference. With the conclusion of the season, several members of the E-Hawk squad have earned recognition from the Lakes Conference on the Lakes All Conference Teams.

Leading the way for Emmetsburg was Senior Jake Jackson, who earned a First Team All Conference berth. On the second team, E-Hawk freshman Dillon VanOosbree and Sophomore Greg Wesley also earned recognition,

Rounding out the honorees for Emmetsburg were Sophomore Jacob Kibbie and Joe Jackson, a Junior, as both received Honorable Mention recognition from the league coaches.

E-Hawk Senior Jake Jackson was selected as a First Team Outfielder. Jackson batted .312, with 24 singles, nine doubles, a triple and three home runs, with 24 RBI’s with three sacrifices. During his season, Jackson also earned a record of 8-2 on the mound for the E-Hawks, pitching 56 1/3 innings with an ERA of 2.49. He tallied 67 strikeouts with 25 walks while facing 205 opponents. In the field, Jackson made 68 put outs and amassed a fielding percentage of .933.

Dillon VanOosbree earned Second Team Honors as an infielder for the E-Hawks. As shortstop for Emmetsburg, VanOosbree led the team in hitting during the season with a .384 batting average that included 23 singles and two doubles for nine RBI’s with three sacrifices. VanOosbree pitched in two games for the E-Hawks and went six and 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs for an ERA?of 4.42 with five strikeouts, and seven walks in facing 38 batters. In the field, VanOosbree made 53 put outs with 73 catches and had a fielding percentage of .836.

Sophomore Greg Wesley was also named to the Second Team as an outfielder for the E-Hawks. Playing in left field, Wesley batted .338 with 25 singles, four doubles and 17 RBI’s during the season. Wesley saw two and a third innings of work on the mound and faced 17 batters, giving up five walks with six earned runs and a strikeout for an ERA of 18.00. In the outfield, Wesley made 125 catches for 121 put outs to amass a fielding percentage of .968.

Sophomore Jacob Kibbie received Honorable Mention recognition for his play in the outfield. Kibbie would bat .312 on the season, with 22 singles for eight RBI’s with one sacrifice. In the outfield, Kibbie made 30 catches for 28 put outs to earn a fielding percentage of .933.

Junior Joe Jackson also received Honorable Mention recognition for the E-Hawks for his play in the infield. Jackson batted .329, with 25 hits and 15 RBI’s, and three sacrifices. Jackson would pitch three innings during the season, giving up 11 earned runs with five walks to 30 batters for an ERA of 25.67. Playing primarily at first base, Jackson made 115 catches for 25 putouts and earned a fielding percentage of .930.
