E-Hawk Grapplers Sweep Generals, Titans

SIBLEY – Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks utilized a full lineup on Tuesday night to sweep a pair of non-conference duals against Sibley-Ocheyedan and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire.

Taking on the host Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan, Emmetsburg used five pins and received four forfeit victories and a technical fall to take a 62-18 win.

AT 120 pounds, Jake Miller opened with a :49 fall over David Monier and at 126, Nick Merwald recorded a 9-7 decision victory over Kyle Green. Chance Saathoff received a win by forfeit at 132 pounds but at 138, Chris VanHeuvelen was the victim of a 1:10 pin b Cole Hieronimus.

Caige Elbert, wrestling at 145 pounds, was pinned by Tyler Reck in :42 of their match and at 152 pounds, Joe Schmidt was the victim of a 1:16 pin at the hands of Tyler O’Connor to make the score 18-15 in favor of the Generals, but those would be Sibley-Ocheyedan’s last points of the dual.

At 160, Brady Bailey pinned Andrew Brockshus in 1:51 and at 170 pounds, Nick Schany returned to the lineup to earn an 18-3 Technical Fall in 5:43 over Chris DeNoble.

Andrew Wellik made his return to the mat at 182 pounds with a :45 win by fall over Dillon Brockshus and at 195 pounds, Austin McCartan opened his season with a :33 win by fall over Devin Hoekstra to make the score 38-18.

Taylor Wegner picked up a :49 pin over Nic Salina in the 220 pound match and at 285, Keagan Barrett received a win by forfeit for the E-Hawks.

Conner Crosgrove received a win by forfeit for Emmetsburg at 106 pounds and Dillon VanOosbree rounded out the dual receiving a win by forfeit at 113 pounds for the 62-18 final team tally.

In the second duel of the night, Emmetsburg met up with the Titans of GT/RA and claimed a 59-18 win.

Nick Merwald would start the duel with a :36 win by fall over Sam George at 126 pounds, but Austin Thompson pinned Chance Saathoff in 1:12 of the 132 pound match. Chris VanHeuvelen met GT/RA’s Tyler Hoffman in action at 138 but would be pinned by Hoffman in 3:27 of the match.

At 145 pounds, Caige Elbert received a win by forfeit to tie the score at 12-12, but in action at 152 pounds, Joe Schmidt battled Hunter Brown in a back-and-forth match to record his first varsity win with a 10-7 decision.

Brady Bailey pinned Kodi Ferguson in:30 at 160 pounds and at 170, Nick Schany tallied an 18-2 Technical Fall at the end of regulation over Matt McGrauth to put the E-Hawks up 26-12.

Andrew Wellik pinned Kevin Smith in 1:29 at 182 pounds while Austin McCartan tallied a :57 win by fall over Kyle Long in the 195 pound match.

Robert Nelson stepped into the lineup at 220 pounds and received a win by forfeit before Taylor Wegner battled Cody Thompson in a wild match before earning a 13-11 decision victory over the Titan heavyweight.

GT/RA would forfeit to Conner Crosgrove at 106 pounds and to Dillon VanOosbree at 113 pounds, but at 120 pounds, Alex hoffman would catch Jake Miller and earned a 1:38 win by fall to end the duel with the 59-18 final score.

Emmetsburg opens Lakes Conference action tonight (Thursday) as they take on Cherokee in a double duel at Alta, and will also wrestle Alta-Aurelia.

Then on Saturday, the E-Hawks will host the Emmetsburg Invitational at the Emmetsburg High School gym. Wrestling action will get underway at 12 noon.
