Swimmers Competing Well
BOONE – The Algona Area High School girls swim team traveled to Boone for a double duel on Thursday, Oct 4, However, the swimmers dropped a pair, falling to Newton’s Cardinals by a 74-24 score and then being edged out by the host Toreadors by a 52-50 tally.
“Even though we did not get a win we swam real hard while setting three new records and adding four more personal bests on the season,” noted Algona Head Coach Jim Fisher. “We competed very well against Newton, a team usually down at state and came up just short against Boone.”
Hannah Priest won the 100 meter breast stroke overall with a new team record and finished first against Boone in the 50 meter freesytle also a new team record.
Maddie Stubbs finished first against Boone in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, Nicole Kenne took a first in the 500 free with a personal best against Boone and the 400 free relay team of Erica Carlson, Mackenzie Wilson, Leah Hamilton and Kenne also earned a first place against the Toreadors.
Second place finishes went to the 200 Medley and 200 free relay teams of Carlson, Stubbs, Alyssa Williams and Priest.
Nicole Kenne set the new team record in the 200 freestyle while Lean Hamilton had a second in the 100 free and had a personal best in the 100 and 200 freestyles.
Shelby Brindley had a personal best in diving with 138.95 points which is 47 points higher than last time she dove at Boone.
The Algona Area Swim squad will close out their regular season with a meet on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Charles City.
