By Staff | Sep 25, 2012

WEST?BEND – It was not a happy homecoming for the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City -Bradgate on Friday as they were edged 14-21 by North Iowa. The loss drops the Wolverines to 4-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in district play.

After the Wolverines went three and out to open the game, North Iowa would drive the field to score. The two teams would trade possessions for several series before the Bison struck off a long pass to take a 14-0 advantage.

WBM/GCB would finally find some offensive spark when quarterback Jesse Zinnel hit Jack Fehr with a 26-yard touchdown pass for a score.

But, North Iowa would tack on one more long passing touchdown for a 21-7 advantage until the Wolverine got a 50-yard punt return from Davey Jergens for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-14.

Time would run out, however, giving the Wolverines their first district loss on the season.

North Iowa would end up with 161 yards of rushing and 116 passing yards, while the Wolverines finished the night with 116 yards of rushing in the defensive battle and 118 passing yards.

Quarterback Jesse Zinnel completed nine of 28 passes, including the touchdown throw to Fehr.

West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate continues district play this Friday when they tackle Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne.
