Swimmers Place Fourth At Charles City Invite
The Algona Area girls swim team placed fourth at the Charles City Comet Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.
“This is our best finish there and we scored 299 points which is 90 points higher than we have scored in the past,” noted Coach Jim Fisher. “We had a good meet with two places finishers some very good times and everyone who swam pointed in the top 16.”
Emmetsburg swimmer Hannah Priest had a second in the 100 breaststroke and a third in the 50 freestyle.
Maddie Stubbs would finish fourth in the 200 IM, while the 200 Medley relay team of Alyssa Williams, Priest, Stubbs and Erica Carlson also earned a fourth place finish. Nicole Kenne took fifth in the 200 freestyle.
Earning sixth place finishes were Maddie Stubbs in the 100 butterfly and the 200 Freestyle relay of Williamson, Carlson, Stubbs and Priest.
Seventh place wen to the 400 free relay team of Leah Hamilton, Cassandra Harms, MacKenzie Wilson and Nicole Kenne.
Leah Hamilton in the 200 free and Erica Carlson in the 50 free and 100 backstroke earned eighth place finishes, while tenth place finishes went to Alyssa Williams in the 100 fly and backstroke, Hamilton in the 100 free and Abby Strohman in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 medley relay team of Harms, Strohman Wilson and Emma Plathe, along with Emma Plathe in the 100 free and Emily McMahon in the 100 breaststroke all finished 11th.
MacKenzie Wilson in the 100 free, Micheala Christian in the 500 free and the 200 free relay comprised of Harms, McMahon,Conner Yi and Plathe as well as the 400 free relay of Plathe, McMahon, Strohman, and Christian, and Casey Harms in the 100 back stroke all took 12th place finishes.
13th place finishes went to Emily McMahon in the 200 IM and Mackenzie Wilson in the 50 free. Conner Yi took 14th in the 100 fly, Abby Strohman was 15th in the 200IM and Michaela christian was 16th in the 200 freestyle.
“I asked Abby Strohman and Micheala Christian to swim events they had really only practiced and both competed well and finished with good times and pointed for us.” said Coach Fisher. “We beat out Waterloo West, a team that had been to the state meet the last 5 years and finished well. That shows the girls what hard work will do.”
