Cougars Next Foe For E-Hawks

By Staff | Sep 20, 2012

With two district wins in the books, the trail doesn’t get any easier for Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks. After a lopsided 72-13 win over Okoboji last Friday, this week’s opponent is a familiar foe, the Cougars of Manson Northwest Webster.

“Manson is a really good football team,”?noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “They lost last week on a late turnover. We played them last year in the playoffs, and they are a much-improved team from last year.”

The Cougars have most of their lineup from last season returning, according to the E-Hawk mentor. “They return a lot of players from that second-round playoff team. They have great size, great speed and great skill players.”

The offense will present challenges to the E-Hawks as well.

“The are a wishbone team, and also run twins and the circle screen,” Dunlap said. “They have a good quarterback, a big tailback and a very good receiver back from last year.”

On defense, the Cougars use a 4/5 and 4/4 alignment, according to Dunlap.

“As a team we must continue to play assignment football on both offense and defense,”?Dunlap said. “We need to continue to improve our focus on both sides of the ball.”

Friday’s game between the E-Hawks and Cougars is 7 p.m. in Manson.
