E-Hawks To Host Pioneers
With a positive start to the District season last Friday in a 59-6 win over North Union, the Emmetsburg E-Hawks return home this Friday to host Okoboji’s Pioneers. While the Pioneers are resuming varsity football after a year’s layoff, that doesn’t mean they are any less of a threat.
“Okoboji has very good size, good quickness, athletic ability and good speed,” pointed out Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “They will present a challenge for us Friday night.”
Even though the E-Hawks had a stellar offensive night last Friday, the upcoming game will not be a given, according to Dunlap.
“Okoboji rus a 4/4 defense and they do a lot of blitzing,” Dunlap noted. “Offensively, they run out of the Pro-I, outside zones, the Wing-I and shotgun.”
But, according to Dunlap, one of the biggest factors for Okoboji is their field leadership. “The start eight seniors on both sides of the ball, about the same as we do, so it will be very interesting to see how we match up.”
With a 1-0 District mark and 2-1 overall mark, Emmetsburg will have to take care of itself every week from here on out.
“We need to continually improve every day,”?Dunlap said. “We need to play assignment football, and take care of the football on every play.”
