Harriers Run Well At ELC

ESTHERVILLE – The Emmetsburg Cross Country Teams continue to improve following their appearance at the Estherville Lincoln Central Invitational Tuesday night The Lady E-Hawks were fifth in the team race while the E-Hawks were seventh overall.

In the varsity girls race, Caroline Fantz took 24th and a medal with her 18:09 time, while Emily Bonnstetter was 26th with an 18:12 clocking for a medal. Taylor Reimer finished 28th and medalled with an 18:19 effort and Mikki Mundus placed 29th to earn a medal with a tie of 18:26.

Tara Harris placed 33rd with an 18:55, while Rachel Ruddy was 34th in 19:08 and Maura Soukup finished 45th with a time of 20:23.

Bonnstetter, Mundus and Harris all set new personal records during the event.

Madison Reimer ran a 23:05 to medal in 20th place for the JV?race, while Alison Gould was 24th place with a 24:17 and medaled and Ema Enriquez also medaled with a time ff 30.56, good for 27th place.

“It was a great meet for the ladies,”?noted Head Coach Valerie Pickett. “Four huge PR’s and seven medals! They were the first finisher of the 1A schools and really ran well with the heat. They ran in a great pack and there was not a lot of space between our runners which will make us a very tough team this year.”

In the varsity boys race, Nick Grandstaff finished 40th with a 20:38, while Austin Cole finished 44th with a time of 21.57 for a new personal record. Michael Pugh finished 47th in 22:20, while Daniel Van Oosbree was 50th with a 23:56 and Lane Smith finished 51st in 25:25.

“This was a great meet for Austin Cole with a big PR for him,”?Coach Pickett noted. “Now, we need to keep pushing in the middle.”

“Overall, I’m happy with how everyone ran. We really attacked the hills and did the passing while on them,” Pickett said. “This means we are all strong runners which will help us as the season progresses.”

The cross country teams will travel to Holstein this Saturday to run in the Ridge View Invitational. Then on Monday, Sept. 10, Emmetsburg will host its own Invitational at the Five Island Golf Course. Action will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the Middle School competition.
