Lady E-Hawks Falter At Laurens-Marathon

LAURENS – A strong start faded on Tuesday night as the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision to Laurens-Marathon in volleyball action. The Lady E-Hawk Junior Varsity earned a 3-0 win in their match Tuesday against the Charger JV.

Emmetsburg took the first varsity game by a 25-22 score, but would go cold offensively as they would fall in the next three games by scores of 13-25, 13-25 and 10-25.

Emmetsburg was led in the effort by Ashton Connelly with 30 of 40 hits and six kills, along with nine digs, 12 of 12 serves with two aces and one assisted block.

Miranda Vlasman added 27 of 33 hits with nine kills, eight of nine serves with an ace, eight digs and an assisted block. Whitney Kibbie turned in 26 of 34 hits with eight kills and added seven of eight serves, as well as digging out 14 shots and handing out nine assists.

Alexa Naig mand 11 of 14 hits with a pair of kills and connected on 10 of 10 serves, assisted on two block, dug out 10 shots and made 19 assists in the match. Emily Noll added nine of 12 hits with two kills, completed 15 of 16 serves with a pair of aces and dug out four shots on the night.

Jacque Carlson added seven of nine hits with a kill, made seven of seven serves with one ace, dug out one shot and made one assists.

Kendall Deitering had one hit and dug out eight shots, while Michaela Rehm dug out 10 shots on the night.

As a team, the Lady E-Hawks made 59 of 62 serves with six aces, converted 112 of 143 hit attempts with 28 kills and came up with four assisted blocks, while digging out 64 shots and making 29 assists.

Last Saturday, the Lady E-Hawks opened their season with an appearance at the Humboldt Tournament Emmetsburg would end the day with a record of 1-5 in matches, as they lost 2-0 to Humboldt, West Bend-Mallard and North Union before downing Ogden 2-1. Game scores against Ogden were 14-21, 21-19 and 15-8.

Emmetsburg would then fall 2-0 to Spirit Lake and South Central Calhoun to finish the day with a 2-11 mark in games.

The next action for the Lady E-Hawks will be an appearance in this Saturday’s Sheldon Volleyball Tournament. Play gets underway at 9 a.m.
