GTRA Golfers Advance To 1A District Meet, Wolverine Linksters See Season End

LAKE?PARK – The golf season will continue for at least one more match for the boys squad from Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire after they finished third in Friday’s Class 1A Sectional tournament. However, the season came to a close for West Bend-Mallard’s Wolverines during the Sectional tourney, played at the Silver Lake Country Club at Lake Park.

Bishop Garrigan of Algona won the team title with a 340 score and was followed by the host Wolves of Harris-Lake Park with a 347. GTRA would finish with a 363, but as the host team placed in the top two, the third team also advances to this Friday’s 1A District meet at Spencer.

Central Lyon would finish fourth with a 366 stroke total and was followed by Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in fifth with a 370. West Bend-Mallard placed sixth with a 379 stroke total and Clay Central-Everly was seventh with a 419.

For GTRA, Dylan Smith would card rounds of 44 and 41 for an 85, while Blaze Alesch carded a 44 and 46 for a 90, while Mitch Girres followed with a 45 and 46 for a 91. Ethan Peterson added rounds of 54 and 43 for a 97, while Kyle Dalen shot a 54 and 52 for a 106. Rounding out the GTRA?efforts was Quinn Parker with rounds of 56 and 56 for a 112.

West Bend-Mallard was led by Zach Marsh and his rounds of 48 and 40 for an 88. Chris Schmidt would card identical rounds of 48 and 48 for a 96, while Brady Jensen shot a 45 and a 51 for his 96 stroke total. Matt Goeders added rounds of 51 and 48 for a 99, while Cole Woodford carded a 52 and a 52 for a 104 and Kolten Goodchild shot rounds of 55 and 53 for a 108 stroke total.

Eli Marlow of Bishop Garrigan would earn the Meet Medalist honors with his rounds of 39 and 39 for a 78, while Ryan Gembler of Harris-Lake Park shot rounds of 40 and 38 for a 78. Also earning qualification for Individual Medalist play at the 1A District on Friday were Nathan Kyle of HLP with an 83, Luke DeJong of Central Lyon with an 84 and Dylan Smith of GTRA?and Michael Berte of Bishop Garrigan with rounds of 85.
