Emmetsburg Thinclads Compete Hard In Outings

Emmetsburg’s girls and boys track squads have been staying busy on the track and field in recent days, improving times and performances at their respective meets.

For the Lady E-Hawks, an outing at the Spencer Invitational on Friday, April 13, provided some very tough competition for Coach Dan Dooley’s team.

The top performance on Friday came from the Distance Medley Relay, which finished third with a time of 4:46.06. Earning a fourth place finish was the Lady E-Hawks’ Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with its’ time of 1:18.67. The 4×800 relay would finish with a time of 12:20.79, good for a fifth place, while the 4×200 relay placed sixth with a 1:59.64 effort. The Sprint Medley Relay also placed sixth with a time of 2:03.85 and the 4×400 relay would turn in a clocking of 4:40.71 to finish in sixth place.

Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks return to action Friday night when they run in the Estherville Lincoln Central Invitational.

Tuesday night, Coach Tyler Beving’s E-Hawks traveled back to Spirit Lake to compete in the Iowa Great Lakes Relays.

For the E-Hawks, Brady Berkland would finish second in the 200 meter dash with a t :24.26 time and the 4×100 relay with Berkland, Brady Christensen, Andrew Wellik and Allen Jensen placed second with a :45.16 clocking.

The E-Hawks’ Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with Chad Loomis, Brandon Elbert, Clayton Henderson and Allen Jensen earned third place with a 1:02.62 clocking, while the 4×400 relay, with Loomis, Shay Mortenson, Christensen and Wellik placed sixth with a tie of 3:50.35 and the Sprint Medley Relay finished seventh, as the quartet of Aaron Bird, Jacob Kibbie, Mortenson and Austin Lietz turned in a time of 4:15.66.

Andrew Wellik would place fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of :24.57, while Brady Berkland tied for fifth in the 100 meter dash with a :12.28 clocking and Chad Loomis earned a fifth place in the 400 hurdles with a time of :60.90

Clayton Henderson ran a :61.26 in the 400 hurdles for a seventh place finish, while Brady Christensen earned ninth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of :12.53.

Brandon Elbert placed tenth in the 110 hurdles in :20.99, wile Austin Lietz took 11th in the 1600 meter run a time of 5:15.78 and Wesley Brennan finished 14th in the 1600 with a time of 5:40.05.

In the field events, Andrew Garrelts would place second in the shot put prelims with a throw of 43.9″, while Arik Kerr threw the shot 40′.6″ to place eighth in the prelims. In the finals, Garrelts would finish fifth with a throw of 43’9″ and Kerr placed eighth with a throw of 41′.25″.

In the discus, Jacob Hutchinson threw 115’7″ in the prelims for the eighth best throw and Andrew Garrelts had the ninth best prelim throw at 113′. For the final placings in the discus competition, Hutchinson would finish eighth with a 116’4″ throw and Garrelts placed ninth by throwing 113′.

Allen Jensen had the eighth best preliminary long jump at 18’4.75″, while Clayton Henderson jumped 17’3″ in the prelims. In the finals, Jensen would leap 19’5″ to earn fifth place overall to round out Emmetsburg’s varsity placings.

The E-Hawks will return to action on Friday, April 20, with an appearance at the Pocahontas Relays in Pocahontas.
