Area Wrestlers To Compete In Senior All Star Meet
CHEROKEE – A trio of local wrestlers will take to the mats a final time this Friday evening when they participate in the 4th annual Senior All Star Wrestling Meet. the event, sponsored by the Northwest Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, will get underway at 6:30 p.m. at Washington High School in Cherokee.
The Honorary Tournament Director for this year’s meet is Rich Stillman of Emmetsburg. Stillman was a three-time state champion for the Emmetsburg E’Hawks and a member of multiple team state championships.
As part of the event, recognition of the District Coaches of the year will take place. Coaches being recognized will be Adam McElrath of Woodbury Central in Class 1A; Stan DeZeeuw of Boyden Hull/ Rock Valley in Class 2A and David Schaefer of Spencer in Class 3A.
Wrestling Official of the Year, Tom Huls of Akron, was also voted as the State Official of the Year at the 2012 Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.
The highlight of the event will be some top-notch wrestling action from an outstanding group of seniors wrapping up their prep mat careers. A total of 34 wrestlers have indicated they will participate in the event. Locally, Justin Studer of Emmetsburg, along with Tyler Dalen and Trent Lundgren of Graettinger-Terril will wrestle on Friday night.
Other area wrestles will include Austin Miller, Luke Sommerlot and Tyler Schneidmiller of Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, Jack Randall of Spencer, Brett Flynn of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Zach Jones of Okoboji and Gable Bonner of Estherville Lincoln Center.
There will also be a raffle at the event for 50 pounds of ground beef as well as a 50/50 drawing to be done at the intermission of the wrestling matches.
