RA/GT Girls’ Season Ends
BUFFALO CENTER The first season of sharing ended for the Ruthven-Ayrshire/Graettinger-Terril Knight girls Thursday night with a 58-34 loss to North Iowa. The loss in the first round 1A Regional Tournament game ends the Knights’ season with a 3-17 final record.
Thursday’s Class 1A Regional tourney game started out fairly well for the Knights, as they were able to stay close to the Lady Bison of North Iowa in the early stages of the contest, using some three point shots from Cassy Hampson to aid in the quest, but the Bison stampeded out to a 13-0 run as the quarter wound down to take a 25-8 advantage over the Raiders.
The scoring was slim for RA/GT in the second quarter, as free throws would account for most of the scoring, along with a three-pointer from Brooke Hoffman and free throws from Alesha Sikora, who saw action after a knee injury at the beginning of the new year. North Iowa’s offense was slowed, but the Bison held a 38-17 lead at the intermission of the contest.
Ruthven-Ayrshire/Graettinger-Terril would play right with North Iowa in the third quarter, matching bucket for bucket, with Emily Moran tallying eight points in the third stanza to make the score 28-50 to start the final quarter, but North Iowa’s lead was too much for the Knight girls to overcome as their season ended in the 58-34 loss.
The Raiders would be led offensively by Emily Moran with her nine points, while Brooke Hoffman added seven points to the effort. Alesha Sikora and Cassy Hampson both scored six points each. Grace Skattebo would chip in five points and Mariah Girres added a free throw for one point.
Ruthven-Ayrshire/Graettinger-Terril saw seniors Alesha Sikora and Mariah Girres play their last prep games in the contest.
