WBM Slips Past Lady E-Hawks

WEST?BEND – The only time West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate would lead in Monday’s matchup with the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks was when it counted most – at the final buzzer. A desperation heave from just inside the key by Sarah Berte gave WBM/GCB a thrilling, come-from-behind 40-39 win over Emmetsburg. The loss drops the Lady E-Hawks to 9-10 on the season.

Emmetsburg would lead 10-8 after the first quarter and took an eight-point, 22-14 advantage at the half. But in the second half, the Lady Wolverines started their comeback, outscoring Emmetsburg 10-7 to trail 29-24. The battle would continue, but Emmetsburg would miss on consecutive trips to the charity stripe in the final 2:00 to allow WBM/GCB to claw back in for the 40-39 win.

For Emmetsburg, Paige Naig had 19 points, wie Ashton Connelly added eight and Alexa Naig scored six, with Faith Schmidt adding four and Kaity Degen adding two points.

Kaley Lempke and Ashley Schmidt both had 10 points for the Lady Wolverines, while Sarah Berte added nine tallies. Jessica Abrahamson had four points, while McKenzie Banwart added four and Haley Banwart and Kayla Banwart both scored two points.
