Raiders Fall To Ventura
RUTHVEN – It was a tought night to be a host as Ruthven-Ayrshire/Graettinger/Terril’s Raider girls and boys would fall to Ventura in a pair of Cornbelt Conference games.
The girls would lose a defensive war by a 57-23 score in a game that featured 63 free throws. Ventura made 24 of 40 at the line while the Raiders made nine of 23.
Ventura led by an 11-8 tally after the first quarter and 29-12 tally at the break, before taking a 43-20 advantage to start the fourth quarter on their way to the 57-23 final score.
The Raiders offensive efforts were led by Alex Olesen and Grace Skattebo as they both scored five points each while Brooke Hoffman and Lauren Flaharty both added four points. Mariah Girres and Katie Olesen would each add two points and Emily Moran added a free throw to the effort.
For the Raider boys, the contest was much closer, but the end result was a 43-34 setback at the hands of the visiting Vikings.
Ventura got out to a quick start as the Raiders struggled in the early going and trailed 13-3 after one quarter of play. At the intermission, the Raiders trailed by 16, 29-13.
The third quarter saw the Raiders come back, as they outscored the Vikings by a 13-6 margin to make the score 35-26, but the Raiders could come no closer than the 43-34 final score.
For RA/GT, Austin Dyer led the offense with 13 points, while Dylan Fischer added 10 points. Garrett Parker and Colin Leiting both added three points, Mitch Girres and Trevor Hagedorn both added two points and Carter Williamson added a free throw.
