Lady E-Hawk Junior Varsity Playing Solid Basketball

Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawk Junior Varsity squad has been playing very solid basketball in its games since the holidays.

At just over the half-way mark of the season, Emmetsburg’s Junior Varsity girls have earned a record of 6-6 after several hard-fought games, according to JV?Coach Shawn Connelly.

To complete the pre-Holiday slate of games, Emmetsburg earned a 34-31 win over Storm Lake. After taking a 15-2 lead off a tough defense in the first quarter, the Lady E-Hawks moved out to a 21-12 lead at halftime. An exchange of baskets in the third quarter made the score 34-23 and Emmetsburg would hold off the Tornadoes in the final quarter for the 34-31 win.

Jacque Carlson led the way with 10 points, while Alexa Naig added nine points. Ashton Connelly score six points along with Michaela Rehm and Taylor Reimer, while Emily Bonnstetter added a free throw.

Emmetsburg returned after the break to take on Western Christian on Jan. 3 and fell to the Wolfpack by a 67-22 tally. The Lady E-Hawks went down by a 21-5 tally after the opening quarter and trailed 37-7 at the half. Emmetsburg would try to rally but came no closer than the 67-22 final score.

Alexa Naig led the scoring with nine points while Jacque Carlson added five points, Michaela Rehm scored four points, with Caroline Fantz and Taylor Reimer both scoring two points each.

On Jan. 5, Emmetsburg hosted Manson Northwest Webster to win by a 29-24 tally. After taking a 7-5 lead, the Lady E-Hawks held the Cougars scoreless in the second quarter for a 13-5 lead at the break. In the second half, Emmetsburg held a 22-15 lead and went on to earn the 29-24 win.

Alexa Naig scored nine points with Ashton Connelly scoring seven. Jacque Carlson added six points, with Michael Rehm adding three points, while Madison Reimer and Taylor Reimer both added two points.

Emmetsburg hosted Spirit Lake on Jan. 6 but fell by a 42-24 score. The Lady E-Hawks trailed 12-8 after the opening quarter and trailed 25-9 at the half. An exchange of baskets in the third led to a 33-18 score and Emmetsburg got no closer than the 42-24 final.

Ashton Connelly led the scoring with 12 points and Jacque Carlson added seven. Michaela Rehm and Taylor Reimer scored two points each and Alexa Naig added a free throw.

Against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Emmetsburg earned a 43-16 win. An early 12-2 lead grew to 20-8 at the half and 30-10 after three quarters before taking the 43-16 final.

Ashton Connelly led with 11 points while Maura Soukop added eight points, Jacque Carlson tallied seven points and Michaela Rehm scored five points. Taylor Reimer and Chelsea Forry both score four points and Alexa Naig and Caroline Fantz both added two points to the winning effort.

Traveling to Cherokee on Jan. 13, Emmetsburg earned a 40-28 victory. A 10-2 lead after the opening quarter was followed by a 15-6 advantage at the half. The Lady E-Hawks went on a quick run to start the third for a 39-12 lead before taking the 40-28 win.

Jacque Carlson led the way with 16 points, while Taylor Reimer added eight points. Alexa Naig and Ashton Connelly both scored four points each,while Michaela Rehm and Emily Bonnstetter both scored three points and Caroline Fantz added a bucket for two points in the win.
