ESTHERVILLE?- A slow start and shots that just wouldn’t drop combined to doom the Emmetsburg E-Hawks in a 50-40 loss to Estherville Lincoln Central Tuesday night. The loss drops the E-Hawks below .500 with a 6-7 overall mark and 2-6 record in league play.

The E-Hawks struggled early to get their shots to fall but lead briefly until the Midgets caught the E-Hawks and passed them to take a 14-7 lead at the opening quarter.

Emmetsburg would fight back in the second quarter and caught the Midgets before retaking the lead off a three-pointer from Michael Pugh to hold a 20-19 lead at the break.

But in the second half, the E-Hawks struggled to get shots to drop time after time and would trail 37-31 at the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter, the E-Hawks fought hard to stay with the Midgets, and cut the deficit to four points, but a couple of threes by the Midgets would put the game out of reach for the 50-40 final.

Emmetsburg would get 14 points from Michael Wolff, with nine points from Marcus Akridge. Ryan Kliegl scored six points, with Jake Carlson and Zach Overberg both making four points and Michael Pugh adding three points.
