Knights Claim Pair Of Crowns At Own Tourney
GRAETTINGER The Knights of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire collected two individual titles at their own Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7. The Knights’ Tyler Dalen and Ty Gibson would win the championships at 113 and 132 pounds, respectively to lead Coach Cody Alesch’s Knights.
At 113 pounds, Tyler Dalen opened his tournament with a 10-2 major decision over Brent Reed of Sibley-Ocheyedan, and pinned Joseph Rivera of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in :49. Dalen would score a 1:26 win by fall over Cole Budach of Estherville Lincoln Central, a :37 win by fall over Austin Oborny of Ridge View and then pinned Adam Dublinski of Okoboji to finish his bracket undefeated with a 5-0 mark to earn the crown.
For Ty Gibson at 132 pounds, a 3:29 win by fall over Brody Linn of Okoboji was followed by a 1:46 pin of Anthony Segura of Estherville Lincoln Central. Gibson would earn a 19-2 technical fall in 5:35 over Cole Hieronimus of Sibley-Ocheyedan and then scored a 10-5 decision victory over Heath Nagel of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn before receiving a bye in the final round to finish a 5-0 bracket for the championship.
Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire got third place finishes from Trent Lundgren at 138 pounds and Connor Tonderum at 126 pounds, and fourth place finishes from Matt McGrauth at 160 pounds and Kyle Long at 182 pounds to close out the tournament.
“As a team we are wrestling better as a whole. We are still making costly mistakes but we are learning,” noted Coach Alesch.
“Ty Gibson looked very good Saturday picking up his first tournament championship along with Outstanding Wrestler Award,” Alesch said. “We will start getting a few guys back that have been out for several weeks due to injury and we are looking forward to seeing some guys return to our lineup.”
