GRAETTINGER – The Knight wrestlers of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire dropped a trio of duels on Thursday night with injuries playing a big role in both setbacks.

The Knights fell 45-12 to Prairie Valley, then lost a 66-9 decision to Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer before falling to Southern Calhoun by a 78-6 score.

“We have a lot of guys injured and we are wrestling extremely poor right now,” noted GT/RA?Head Coach Cody Alesch. “We started the year with 15 guys and Thursday we were down to four who could wrestle in the last duel.”

Against Prairie Valley, Mitch McGrauth would be pinned in 3:21 of his 170 pound match by Tom Nahnson, but at 195 pounds, Kyle Long earned a win by forfeit.

Once again, the Knights would forfeit nine matches to the Indians for the 66-9 score.

In the final duel of the night, the Knights were rattled when Trent Lundgren was injured and couldn’t take the mat.

“Congratulations to Tyler Dalen for his 100th win,”?Coach Alesch added. “He has been working extremely hard this season.”

After Thursday’s triangular, the Knights traveled to Sibley on Saturday to participate in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invitational.

For the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestlers, six wrestlers would take to the mats on Saturday and four earned placings.

Tyler Dalen claimed the championship at 113 pounds, as he earned a :45 win by fall over Dylan Rhoder of Ridge View and a 1:04 win by fall over Mark Baker of Sheldon before winning the title in a 9-3 decision over Efrain Anzua of Maurice-Orange City/Floyd Valley.

Also earning placings for the Knights on Saturday was Connor Tonderum, who finished third at 126 pounds.

Ty Gibson would claim a fourth place finish for GT/RA at 138 pounds and at 170 pounds, Matt McGrauth earned a fifth place finish.

“It has been a very unfortunate week for Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestling,” noted Head Coach Cody Alesch. “We’ve had numerous guys suffer injuries this week. We brought six guys to Sibley and then one of those six, Tym Hart, at 152 pounds, suffered a serious injury, a dislocated elbow. Hopefully, we will learn more about our injuries as we approach next week and maybe start getting some good news so we can start putting the pieces of this team back together. I?thought the guys who wrestled Saturday took a step in the right direction.”
