Lady E-Hawks Down Forest City

Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks picked up a non-conference win Monday night with a 50-41 triumph over Forest City. The win gives Emmetsburg a 2-0 mark overall as they prepared to open Lakes Conference play Tuesday night.

Emmetsburg would work their inside game from the opening tip and took a 14-10 lead after the opening quarter and held on to a 22-20 advantage at the intermission.

Forest City would take advantage of a cold shooting spell in the third frame to take a 34-31 lead over Emmetsburg at the end of three quarters, but the Lady E-Hawks came storming back and held the Indians to seven points while adding 19 points to their own tally for the 50-41 final margin of victory.

Paige Naig would lead all scorers on the night with 28 points to pace Emmetsburg. Alexa Naig added six, while Hadley Egland, Faith Schmidt and Ashton Connelly all tallied four points and Justine Kummer and Kaity Degen scored two points each in the win.

Things would not go as well on Tuesday in the Lakes Conference opener as Emmetsburg fell to Estherville Lincoln Central by a 53-16 score.

Emmetsburg was held scoreless in the first quarter as the Midgets took a 9-0 lead off a slow start. In the second quarter, ELC?took a 27-7 advantage at the intermission and in the third quarter, Emmetsburg was limited to a free throw as its’ only offense to trail 44-8. The Midgets would coast to the 53-16 as the Lady E-Hawks struggled against the aggressive ELC?defense.

Emmetsburg was led by the five pont effort of Paige Naig, while Faith Schmidt and Ashton Connelly each scored three points. Hadley Egland and Justine Kummer both scored two points in the effort and Taylor Reimer added a free throw to round out the scoring.

Emmetsburg resumes Lakes Conference play this Friday night when they travel to LeMars for league action.
