Swimmers Conclude Season At Regional
FORT?DODGE – The Algona Area Swim Team concluded its season on Saturday, Oct. 29, with an eighth place finish at the Regional meet in Fort Dodge. The squad, composed of swimmers from Algona, Emmetsburg, Bishop Garrigan and Estherville Lincoln Central, scored 100 points during the event at the Fort Dodge Senior High School pool.
“The team had two new team records, 16 times that beat their seed times and 11 new personal bests, which is really a good way to end the season,” noted Coach Jim Fisher. “We also had Shelby Brindley compete in the diving competition for us, and she set a new team record in 11 dives with 244.60 points, so she finished sixth and made it to the medal stand.”
During the competition in the pool, the 400 Free relay team of Maddie Stubbs, Kendall Bosch, Nicole Kenne and Hannah Priest finished in sixth place with a record-setting time of 4:18.45.
“That time beat the old team record by a second,” Fisher noted. “It was nice to see the girls get the record in the last race as it also got them to the medal stand. It was especially nice as it was Kendall Bosch’s last race, as she is the only Senior on the team.”
The 200 Medley Relay earned a seventh place finish with members Alyssa Williams, Hannah Priest, Kendall Bosch and Maddie Stubbs.
The 200 Freestyle saw Nicole Kenne earn 17th place, while Amber Schacherer earned 20th place and Kendra Roethler finished in 22nd place.
In the 200 IM- Maddie Stubbs earned 14th place honors, while Mackenzie Wilson finished 20th and Abby Strohman finished in 21st place.
Emma Plathe finished 20th in the 50 Free, while Joanna Wilson took 24th place and Lindsey Humble finished in 25th place.
Senior Kendall Bosch earned 13th place in the 100 Fly, with Alyssa Williams finishing 15th and Mackenzie Wilson placing 20th.
In the 100 Free, Erica Carlson placed 21st place, with Amber Schacherer earning 22nd place and Emma Plathe finishing in 23rd place.
Nicole Kenne finished 17th in the 500 Free, with Michaela Christian placing 21st.
The 200 Free Relay, comprised of Amber Schacherer, Maddie Stubbs, Kendall Bosch and Hannah Priest, earned a seventh place finish.
In the 100 Backstroke- Alyssa Williams earned 14th place, while Erica Carlson took 17th place and Lindsey Humble finished 25th.
For the 100 breaststroke, Hannah Priest would finish ninth overall, while Abby Strohman finished 21st and Kendra Roethler finished 25th.
In the 400 Free Relay, the quartet of Maddie Stubbs, Kendall Bosch, Nicole Kenne and Hannah Priest earned a sixth place finish to round out the Regional effort.
For the season, the Algona Area Swimmers finished with a 5-7 mark in duals. Accomplishments included a third place finish in the Charles City Quadrangular and a third place finish at the Des Moines North Polar Bear Invitational. The team finished out the season with an appearance at the Comet Relays in Charles City where they earned a sixth place finish.
